WWE Intercontinental Championship

After my thoughts on the tag team championship match, things get a bit more subdued here, although with the caliber of competitors in the match, I should be just as enthused and just as opinionated.

The feud between The Miz and Dean Ambrose has been going on for the better part of 7 months.  Two of the WWE’s best, battling over a prize that is, by rights, the second most important championship on RAW. But, are they battling over the belt? The Miz wants to keep the belt, sure, but he wants Dean Ambrose to stop beating him up. Dean Ambrose seems to want to finally defeat The Miz with the same intensity with which he wants to win the Intercontinental Championship… so I’m not sure they’re actually fighting over just the belt, anymore. Which is fine. But hopefully this match ends the title matches between these two for a while. Hopefully we get to see other competitors step up and challenge for it. Plenty of guys deserve a shot to be in that sort of spotlight.

Dean Ambrose is not going to give up until he has defeated The Miz, and although they could give him a temporary feud to let him bide his time while The Miz moves on to other things, that would only be prolonging things. Now is as good a time as any to pull the trigger and move the belt onto Dean Ambrose and let other feuds spring forth.

Enzo Amore vs Big Cass

One of them is great on the mic and average in the ring, and the other is mediocre on the mic and… 7 foot tall. So of course, having two guys who make up for their partners’ shortcomings seems natural for the basis of a tag team. And yet, WWE breaks up a team with all sorts of heat, getting two singles competitors in return who will both struggle in the mid-card.

Because Enzo will always be a great underdog, having him lose to Cass makes sense. Let Cass beat him with some underhanded tactics and then let the feud continue at varying levels of intensity through next year’s WrestleMania. They can both benefit from it.

And no, I don’t mean Cass and Enzo should fight at EACH of the big events between now and then. Don’t have them fight at SummerSlam. Have them on separate teams at Survivor Series. Have them charge at each other during The Royal Rumble. But in the meantime, give them others to fight as well.
