As WWE progresses through late fall and winter, all the way through Wrestlemania, things get easier to predict. During the rest of the year, WWE has more flexibility to try new things, see how competitors deal with various situations, and try to build up competitor credibility. It makes matches harder to predict, but it can also make for some fun opportunities. When I make predictions for those events, I typically go with what I HOPE will happen, instead of trying to guess which direction WWE will go.

Tonight is the Over The Limit pay per view, and there are a few interesting matches on it… and most of them will come before main event time.

Rey Mysterio vs R-Truth

This is one of the more intriguing matches on the card, just based on what the outcome might mean. They’ve teased putting R-Truth into the main event scene, and I see this as a stepping stone. In reality, it’s probably just happening because John Morrison was supposed to be the chosen opponent for R-Truth before Morrison got injured. Until I talked to J-Day earlier today, I was convinced that R-Truth was going to get himself disqualified in this match, but J-Day brought up a concept that I really like. I think it’s highly possible that John Morrison will show up and attack R-Truth, inadvertently getting Mysterio disqualified. This could lead to a three-way pay per view match next month between those individuals due to Rey not being happy with John causing R-Truth to get a victory over him. If they don’t go with that outcome, I can’t really see R-Truth getting a legit win over Mysterio, so they’d likely go with Rey getting the victory, and that just hurts R-Truth’s credibility.

Prediction: Either way it ends by DQ, but I’m hoping it’s R-Truth who wins due to John Morrison’s involvement.

Kiss My Foot Match – Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole

Can this feud be over already? Or at least, can they stop wasting pay per view matches on it? I’m okay with the tension at the announce table, but I don’t want to see another match between the two of them on pay per view, and I think it’s obvious that Jerry Lawler has to be the final victor in this feud… and it needs to happen tonight.

Prediction: Jerry Lawler makes Michael Cole kiss his own foot and Cole NEVER makes it into the Hall Of Fame

Sin Cara vs Chavo Guerrero

WWE needs to give fans more of a reason to care about Sin Cara, and a win at one pay per view over Chavo Guerrero isn’t enough. They need to give Chavo Guerrero a win at Over The Limit and then give Sin Cara a rematch at next month’s pay per view for a more heated contest. Chavo is great on the mic, and giving him a win tonight can easily do the job to make people more excited to see Chavo fight Sin Cara again next month.

Prediction: Chavo Guerrero picks up a dodgy win.

Diva’s Championship – Kelly Kelly vs Brie Bella (c)

WWE is clearly building up to a Kelly Kelly / kHARMa encounter, and what better way to add excitement to the Diva’s Championship than to have kHARMa hold it? To get to that point, we’d have to get Kelly Kelly a victory over a Bella twin. I do think WWE might have Kelly Kelly / kHARMa happen without the belt involved, but I’m hoping they go with my “conventional” wisdom.

Prediction: Kelly Kelly wins the belt

Intercontinental Championship – Zeke Jackson vs Wade Barrett (c)

Though I do think WWE likes the idea of having Zeke Jackson hold a championship, I think they’ll find a way to prolong his struggle in trying to attain it. While I realize that there’s a definite chance that Zeke will take the belt from Wade tonight and never look back, I think they’ll hold off for at least a few weeks before giving the excommunicated Corre member the strap.

Prediction: Wade Barrett finds a way to RETAIN the belt (not necessarily winning the match)

WWE Tag Team Championship – Nexus vs Big Show & Kane (c)

I’d really like to see Nexus get the tag team titles, but I think the story WWE wants to tell with Mason Ryan is to have him leave Nexus by realizing he’s too good to need the “backup”. I don’t think the best way to tell that story is to give Nexus the tag titles and have the co-champions start to split apart during their reign. Besides, Big Show and Kane don’t have much else to do and they’re quality champions to lead that division.

Prediction: Big Show & Kane retain the straps

World Heavyweight Championship – Christian vs Randy Orton (c)

This one seems like a no brainer. I’d find it really hard to believe that Christian is going to get the belt back so soon after having lost it in the first week of his reign. It’s a possibility, but I’m fairly certain that WWE wants Randy Orton to be the face of Smackdown, and they’ll leave the belt on him. Orton matches up better with Mark Henry, Sheamus and Wade Barrett than Christian does, and those are the guys who are going to be in the main event scene on Smackdown.

Prediction: Randy Orton retains

WWE Championship I Quit Match – The Miz vs John Cena (c)

On its face, this one seems as obvious as the World Heavyweight Championship match, but I’m not entirely sure what’s going to happen. The Miz and John Cena have been trading the belt back and forth for a little while, so I tend to think that John Cena is going to hold onto the belt tonight, especially given his track record in I QUIT matches… and the fact that his shirt basically says he doesn’t give up. While there is a slight chance that The Miz could find a way to weasel out a victory (possibly using a recording of Cena’s voice played over the sound system by Alex Riley like what The Rock did with Mankind a decade ago), I don’t think it’s going to happen. The Miz is showing signs of being “over” with the crowd as he gets more cheers and they echo his catch phrases, so I think there’s a good possibility that he could be switching alignments in the next couple months, and I don’t think battling John Cena is the way that’s going to happen.

Prediction: John Cena gets the win

So that’s what I think is going to happen on the card. Leave a comment and let us know what you think will happen!
