Hey everyone, my name is Brian and I am a new writer for Guys Nation and will be writing about a bunch of different things one of them being upcoming UFC fights.

Here is a list of different fights I’m looking forward to in the upcoming months:

UFC Rio – 01/14/12

Jose Aldo vs Chad Mendes
It’s a title fight, and Aldo will be fighting in his home country. It’s your typical striker vs wrestler. Aldo is amazing in all aspects of the striking game and Mendes is a good wrestler. The problem for Mendes is that Aldo is also very good on the ground and the pace at which he fights. I think Jose Aldo keeps the belt in this fight.

Vitor Belfort vs Anthony Johnson
Johnson is making his debut at 185 after fighting his entire UFC career at 170. He should be more powerful and faster at this new weight. Belfort will be fighting in his home country and will definitely have the support of the crowd. It’s hard to see where this fight goes as both are well rounded fighters. Johnson will be looking to impress in his first fight at 185, and Belfort will be looking to bounce back after his last loss to Anderson Silva and will want to win in Brazil.

UFC on FX – 01/20/12

Melvin Guillard vs Jim Miller
Both fighters lost their last fight and both can be seen as top 5 fighters in the Lightweight class. The winner of this one could either fight Clay Guida or be next in line for a shot at the title, it depends on how the fight goes. If this fight stays standing, which I don’t think it will, Guillard will win. If it goes to the ground, like I think it will, this fight is anyones to win.

UFC on Fox 2 – 01/28/12

Rashad Evans vs Phil Davis
Both are good wrestlers and both can strike. I give the edge in striking to Evans, he has nasty power in his kicks and can knock out his opponent with either a kick to the head or a punch. Evans is motivated to win this fight so that he can get the next shot at the champion Jon Jones. Whoever wins this fight will get the next title shot if Jones keeps is word and doesn’t fight again until the summer.

Chael Sonnen vs Mark Munoz
I love Sonnen, he is one of the few fighters who can back up all the trash talking that he does. I see Sonnen taking Munoz down and wining via submission. It will be interesting to see if Sonnen calls out Silva or if he decides to challenge another champion. No matter what he is sure to get people to watch to see what he says which is great for the UFC and Fox.

UFC 143 – 02/04/12

Nick Diaz vs Carlos Condit
This is a fight for the Interim Welterweight title, while George Saint-Pierre recovers from a torn ACL. I think this will be a competitive fight for the first 2 rounds. Then Diaz’s boxing and stamina will help him dominate the fight.

Roy Nelson vs Fabrico Werdum
It will be interesting to see how in shape Nelson comes in after he was told to lose weight and get into better shape. Werdum is making is return to the UFC after a stint in Strikeforce, in his last 3 fights he is 2-1 with wins over Antonio Silva and Fedor Emelianenko and lost against Alistair Overeem. I believe this is a great matchup, both can wrestle and both can strike.

In my next post about upcoming UFC fights I will breakdown UFC 144 which has a lot of great cards, and is the card that I think will be one of the best cards of this early but very busy year.
