Three films debuted in the top 10 in box office earnings this past holiday weekend, but that doesn’t mean they got the best ratings. TAMMY debuted in second place with $21.5 M despite being one of the worst rated films in years. It fell $15.5 M short of catching the similarly panned fourth film in the Transformers series. Yet, it gained more than DELIVER US FROM EVIL and EARTH TO ECHO combined.
Getting great ratings is LIFE ITSELF, which only opened in 23 theaters nationwide, meaning it didn’t stand a chance of getting into the top 10 in earnings. Its average per-theater earnings would’ve put it in third.
Each week, Half Popped Reviews likes to try to let you know how films fared at the movie theater box office. Here’s a list of movies that hit the theater this past weekend:
LIFE ITSELFBrief Synopsis: “Life Itself recounts the surprising and entertaining life of renowned film critic and social commentator Roger Ebert. The film details his early days as a freewheeling bachelor and Pulitzer Prize winner, his famously contentious partnership with Gene Siskel, his life-altering marriage, and his brave and transcendent battle with cancer.”

- Sober Film Critic James Brown -[61 / 100]- (full review) – With director Scott Derrickson pulling all the typical strings of a horror movie and putting together a rather routine supernatural flick, Deliver Us From Evil breaks no records. It’s just the best of some barely decent horror movies this year.
