Strikeforce Challengers 16

Main Card Predictions

Caros Fodor vs. James Terry

While many of the fighters are unknown to the casual MMA fan, the Strikeforce LW division is always exciting to watch. While it is going to be a while before one of these contenders is actually able to defeat Gilbert Melendez, I really enjoy seeing them progress and develop in to the future of the promotion. This fight is a perfect example of this as both Terry and Fodor are on an upswing within the promotion. The winner here should be only one or two steps away from stepping up to one of the bigger Strikeforce cards in the future.

Prediction: James Terry by Decision

Ryan Couture vs. Matt Ricehouse

These Ryan Couture fights are hard to predict because of the inexperience between him and the opponents he has been facing. On paper, Matt Ricehouse seems to be the toughest opponent he has faced so far. In his first few fights, Ryan’s ground game seems to be a little more dangerous than his famous father’s. Based on that I think he will win.

Prediction: Couture by Decision

Lorenz Larkin vs. Gian Villante

Larkin looked amazing in his first Strikeforce fight. Knocking out Scott Lighty is not an easy task for anyone. He is an aggressive mix of Pat Berry and Lyoto Machida and possibly the only prospect at 205 that Strikeforce has. His opponent Villante is relatively unknown but comes from a kickboxing/wrestling background. His best chance at victory is to get this fight to the ground. If Larkin comes out as sharp as he did last time, this should be over quick.

Prediction: Larkin by KO

Jason High vs. Quinn Mulhern

This is a fight that I am personally excited about. These two welterweight fighters have a lot to prove here. Jason High has fought all over the globe and has faced some of the toughest competition a 170 lbs. fighter can face if not in the UFC. He was a finalist in the Dream welterweight tournament and owns a victory over Mach Sakurai. On the other hand, Mulhern has dominated that KOTC welterweight division even unifying the Canadian and world 170 titles before leaving the promotion to join Strikeforce. This is really tough to call but I’m giving it to Mulhern.

Prediction: Mulhern by Submission

Julia Budd vs. Germaine de Randamie

So let me out by stating that like UFC President Dana White, I am not a big fan of women’s MMA. It’s not that it is bad or anything, it is just too unorganized at this point and it is becoming hard to follow. Strikeforce has the best chance of making it worth watching but that chance is slowly fading away. A good showing by these two ladies can continue to keep it in the foreground. With that said, I don’t know anything about these fighters but I keep hearing Julia Budd’s name mentioned so I am going with her here.

Prediction: Budd by Decision
