Last year, I discovered an award show which has since become my favorite awards show on the calendar year.  It’s certainly the most original and the most fun to watch… and it seems like the stars really enjoy attending it too.  More on that in a minute.

If you haven’t seen the SCREAM Awards on Spike TV, you’re not missing out.  Unless you like Halloween (the holiday and/or the movies), Sci-Fi movies, Horror flicks, comic book themed anything, folks in costume, special effects, and elaborate sets which celebrate entertainment instead of just having pomp and circumstance to make a historic awards show seem important.

Oh, and there was not only fire all over the place (including flames all over one of the presenter eye-candy which I still can’t understand how they worked without torching her), but also fake snow.

Inception was honored, introduced by a couple dozen musicians to set the scene and a great backdrop display to recreate a couple of the scenes from Inception.  How much do these awards mean to folks in Hollywood?  Christopher Nolan showed up.

There’s also the ladies.  In addition to the gobs of scantily costumed women in the audience, there were quite a few hot women who you’ll likely recognize.  Examples?

Megan Fox presented the award for Best Villain.  Because I don’t want to give any spoilers, I won’t mention who won that award – nor any other award on the list, but I will say that this is the only award show I can think of which would even mention the movie “Human Centipede”.  If you haven’t heard of that movie, you’re likely not a horror movie fan, you probably don’t like to watch movies where people are tortured, and you shouldn’t look it up on Google or any other search engine (Yahoo is growing on me, btw).

The categories really do make these awards.  I’m not going to list them all out, but you’re not going to get the standard awards that you would from the Oscars, Golden Globes or Emmys.  Just a few examples?

Holy Shit Scene of the Year, which included options from TV and Feature Films.

Best Fantasy Actress, including in the nominees the awesome performance by Chloe Moretz from Kick-Ass

Best Worst Movie

Most Memorable Mutilation

Comic Book Writer Of The Year, which might not be as exciting to some people, but I like it because I feel like it gives some respect to a very influential group of folks who actually do a lot of writing for not only comic books but also television and movies.

Stars in attendence, just to name a few:  James Cameron in attendance.  Anthony Hopkins presented.  Aaron Eckhart.  Rainn Wilson.  Rosario Dawson and Bill Murray (picture proof at the bottom of this article).

25 years after it hit the screen for the first time, Back To The Future got a tribute on the SCREAM Awards, complete with an appearance by Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd.

There was also one final goodbye to LOST, which also got a tribute segment on the show.

Did I mention the great sets?

Like to know what films are coming up which you should be looking forward to?  Enjoy seeing scenes before anyone else?  The SCREAM Awards also had a few World Premiere Trailers:

  • Paranormal Activity 2 (which I won’t be seeing because I hate movies which leave me looking over my shoulder at midnight),
  • Super (which looks hillarious and brutal),
  • The Rite (which could be an Oscar contender and I had never heard of it prior to these awards)
  • Scream 4 (which looks almost as good as the first in the series)
  • Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part I

There was also a world premiere previously unseen scene from the extended version of Avatar which is yet to be released.

I’m sure SPIKE TV will be showing the SCREAM Awards a few more times this week and next week, so check the guide on your cable / satellite and hook it up on the DVR (preferably TiVo if you’ve got one).

GuysNation also has a review of last year’s Scream Awards, so be sure to check that out too (either by using the related links below or by navigating through the site using the tags).

More pictures?  You’re welcome.

Did I mention that the ladies were showing some skin?
