Andrew Garfield
In my review of “The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus” when I said of Andrew Garfield that he “did [a] good [job] with [his] supporting [character role], to the point where I’ll be interested to watch other films [he’s] in”, I never imagined that I’d be seeing him in one of the biggest reboots of all time.

Andrew Garfield has been cast to play the role of Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.
Andrew Garfield - the next Spider-Man / Peter Parker
Wanting a fourth installment of the franchise, Sony Pictures could not work out a deal with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire to return for a sequel to Spider-Man 3, so they decided that the series would go back to the starting line with a total reboot of the series.
While I’m not a huge fan of the idea of losing traction, I’m not entirely sure how Raimi and the rest of the gang could’ve evolved the characters in a fourth film. Many people disliked the route they took for the third film in the franchise, so it might be the best idea to restart things and get a fresh perspective.
It is disappointing, however, that some of the supporting cast might not return. While I never cared much for Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, I did enjoy J.Jonah Jameson (editor at the Daily Bugel) as portrayed by J.K. Simmons nearly perfectly.
One reason that Spidey fans should be excited about Andrew Garfield taking the role, in addition to his quality acting skills, is because he’s 8 years younger than Tobey Maguire, meaning it’s far more likely that we could see him make a cameo in some of the Avengers films currently in development from Marvel.
Other actors who were previously rumored to be in the running for the Peter Parker role are Jamie Bell (of Billy Elliot and Jumper, 3 years younger than Garfield), Josh Hutcherson (of Zathura, currently 18 years old) and Frank Dillane (young Tom Riddle from the recent Harry Potter films, currently 19).
I think Andrew Garfield will be a fine choice for the role, and I’m anxiously awaiting the 2012 reboot.

I think if they couldn’t get Raimi and Toby back then a reboot was the only plausible thing they could do. I mean they could have tried to make the fourth one with the new cast…but it probably wouldn’t translate all that well after three installments with Toby as the lead.
Plus, I mean, maybe a fresh start is just what Spider-Man needs. Look what it did for Batman. Now, it needs to be done right but it could be a reviving point for Spider-Man movies after the somewhat disappointing Spider-Man 3.
3 was pretty bad, and I agree that reboot is the only way to go, since they seem dead set on making this movie.
I wonder about the fact that with the batman reboot they put a whole helluva lot more time between Batman and Robin and “Batman Begins”… I feel this will be more like Batman and Robin than Batman Begins.
