Philadelphia Phillies fans likely thought things couldn’t get worse.

Their team was just eliminated from the playoffs in the first round despite amassing a pitching staff which looked unbeatable. Changes are good that for the next few months, something else is going to weigh on their mind in addition to another season without a World Series appearance.

During the last out of their game 5 loss to the St Louis Cardinals, Phillies All Star first baseman Ryan Howard tore the Achilles tendon in his left ankle.

There’s no word yet on when the surgery will occur, or whether he’ll be ready to participate in next season’s spring training. According to reports, the surgery will be scheduled once swelling decreases, and the recovery time is estimated to be six months.
