This was not a great week for running backs in the NFL, as several of them came up with injuries of varying severity.

Clinton Portis saw very limited action in the second half of the Redskins’ loss to St Louis, with a hand injury apparently the problem.

In the same game, Rams rusher Steven Jackson injured his groin, worrying his team enough that they contacted (former Redskins running back) Larry Johnson to serve as a potential veteran replacement.

Jahvid Best

Detroit Lions rookie phenom Jahvid Best, who has 4 rushing touchdowns (another one receiving) and over 300 all purpose yards thus far, left the game early in Week 3 having suffered turf toe.

Ray Rice, a standout for the Baltimore Ravens last season, now has a ‘significant’ knee contusion which makes him questionable for their week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
