So, week 6 was a Saturday night race and broke a 76 winless streak for Matt Kenseth driving the Crown Royal Black #17 car.  What I saw of the race had Kenseth sitting with a comfortable lead.  Of course, after getting up at 3am driving out to the mountains to hunt turkeys, returning home in time to get ready for dinner and getting back to watch the race, I fell fast asleep.  This week is still proving to be a year of change.  Only Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Jimmy Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr.  were already in the top 12 before the race and finished in the top 10 this week.  Carl is now tied for first place, Kenseth moved up 6 places to 3rd and Jr. jumped up two places to 6th.  Clint Bowyer, who finished second this week in Texas, jumped up 4 places to 12th position.  Of course, under the new rules, if the chase started today, Jeff Gordon would replace him at 12th since Jeff is in the top 20 and has a win.

I felt bad for Mark Martin who I did see get in an unfortunate wreck with Martin Truex Jr. and was knocked out of the race.  That dropped him down 5 places to 15th place.  With the current scoring system and his driving, he should quickly return to the top 12.

Speaking of scoring, the top 25 drivers are only separated by 100 points, and with each race winner gaining only 43 points, this still leaves room for someone to change their season around and get back into the chase by September.

I have to start my planning now…only one more race before I am headed off to Richmond for the Crown Royal presents the Matthew and Daniel Hansen 400.  It is a Saturday night race under the lights at RIR.  I will be giving the pre-race report from the tailgate cookout at my truck and a post race sometime after I get home.  I am looking forward to the spring race, but next week we have another exciting race to watch coming from Talladega!
