There’s so much going on in movie news right now that instead of covering it in a dozen separate articles, I wanted to give some summaries all in one spot.

First, the money…

Casting for the Farrelly Brothers upcoming film adaptation of THREE STOOGES continues.  Will Sasso (of Mad TV fame) has already been cast as Curly, and he will be joined by Sean Hayes who landed the role of Larry.  Hayes is best known for his run as Jack on WILL & GRACE, a show which most GuysNation readers probably didn’t watch.  Still no word on who will play Moe. One of Alfred Hitchcock’s classics, TO CATCH A THIEF (one of my personal favorites) is getting remade.  Screenwriter Josh Stolberg says they’re currently working on casting and compares it to the original by saying the new version will be more “”modern and gadgety”.  (Source: ComingSoon)

Apart from the films which are building up towards the AVENGERS project, Marvel Studios is apparently considering making a live-action DR STRANGE according to Kevin Feige (the studio head at Marvel).  In recent interviews, Patrick Dempsey (GREY’S ANATOMY, various good 80’s flicks) has stated serious interest in portraying the character. “I’ve been lobbying for that. There’s a whole bunch of people [among the ‘Grey’s’ crew] who are into comics and Marvel, too, on the set and they’re like, ‘Doctor Strange, that’s the one you should do.’ It would be fantastic.”  Dempsey doesn’t necessarily see it as a film, however “It’d be a great TV show, especially for HBO or something like that. I don’t know if I’d necessarily do another show, a drama, that’s 24 episodes again. HBO you’re at 13 and I think that’s much better. It’s just so hard to sustain the quality after three years if you’re doing 24, 25 episodes a year. It all depends on who you have as a writing team — it’s how you set it up, what’s the tone and making sure you’re not locked into this one-season success [mentality], you can’t be afraid to think beyond that.” (source: HeroComplex / LA Times)

In a previous article I explained that Hollywood is working up a third Ghostbusters flick, and now another long-since touched property is in the process of getting a trilogy-ending film worked up.  In an interview with MTV, Keanu Reeves indicated that a script is in the works for a new Bill & Ted film, building on the events of BOGUS JOURNEY, which was released back in 1991. Most people felt like the third (and possibly second) installment of the SCREAM films were unnecessary (or at the very least weak), but with the fourth in the series coming out April 15th looking like it could be a great revival, interest is renewed, and fans have an additional film they can enjoy, but it’s non-fiction.  No, not non-fiction in the way that one of the Scream sequels tried to do the “movie within a movie” thing, this is a documentary called STILL SCREAMING: THE ULTIMATE SCARY MOVIE RETROSPECTIVE.   For those interested and living in the Los Angeles area, here are some brief details on how you can attend the screaming… I mean screening:

The screening will take place Thursday, April 14th at the Laemmle Sunset 5, 8000 W Sunset Blvd Los Angeles, California at 10PM. After the screening, FEARnet will host a Q&A session with Anthony Masi and Ryan Turek. For your chance to nab a spot on the guest list, email them at stillscreamingrsvp@gmail.com. Seating will be on a first come, first serve basis.

M. Night Shyamalan is working on a new sci-fi adventure film, and the two actors who are going to take center stage? Will Smith and his son Jaden.  Judging from the press release from SONY this week, the film appears to be a futuristic survival movie which involves Will Smith playing the estranged father to his real-life son Jaden.  (source: Cinematical)

Warner Bros Animation recently announced that one of their future projects in development will be based on the “Tower of Babel” storyline arc, whereby tensions mount amongst the Justice League Of America when they find out that Batman has kept secret files on each member, detailing their weaknesses in the event that he might need to act against one of them.  The crux of the tension involves Ra’s al Ghul (whom mainstream viewers might remember from Liam Neeson’s portrayal in Batman Begins) obtaining those files and plotting against the group.  (Source: SpinOff)
