After Superman Returns disappointed Warner Bros and a large part of the movie-going world, there was much discussion over what would become of the next movie in the series.  Instead of allowing Bryan Singer to continue his planned work, Warner Bros put the project into the hands of producers Christopher Nolan, David S Goyer, and director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen).  The rumors circulated and speculation ran rampant regarding the cast for The Man Of Steel, but until now nothing was set in stone.

Any rumors of Brandon Routh returning to the role can be put to rest.  Henry Cavill has been cast as Superman / Kal-El / Clark Kent.

For those of you who might not be familiar with Henry Cavill, which is probably the majority of you (a group which I, myself, am a member), here are just some of his acting credits to review while we wait for the actor to bring his talents on screen as the most widely recognized superhero in the world:

  • The Count Of Monte Cristo (2002)
  • Tristan + Isolde
  • Red Riding Hood (2004)
  • The Tudors
  • Whatever Works

As a life-long Superman fan, I now have more items to add to my movie delivery queue to go along with the Andrew Garfield work in trying to catch up with Spider-man.

This is not the first time that Henry Cavill had been considered for the part of Krypton’s most notable former resident.  Back before Bryan Singer took the helm of Superman returns, it was reported that Cavill was a front-runner to wear the crest of El and the red cape, but that was before Warner Bros decided not to go with McG at the helm of the project.

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen,” Snyder said in a statement. “I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”
