In an earlier article here on GuysNation, I stated my frustrations with the Wizards unloading their talented players, but in the first game for the Wizards without Antawn Jamison, what does Andray Blatche do as he enters the starting lineup?  He posts a career high 33 points to go along with 13 rebounds, tripling his season average for points and more than doubling his season average for rebounds.

Maybe Ernie Grunfeld is wiser than people give him credit for.  Maybe he realized that with Andray Blatche, the Wizards could trade Haywood.  Ernie did confidently trade Ray Allen, knowing he had Michael Redd to fill the gap.

Maybe Javale McGee is capable of getting a double-double (points / rebounds) every night like he did on Wednesday in his first start of the season.  I wouldn’t expect 5 blocks every night, because the Minnesota Timberwolves aren’t exactly a playoff caliber team, but 2 per night would help a lot.  Mike Miller continues to be an accurate shooter by knocking down 3 point shots, and if Earl Boykins can add equal parts points and assists, if Josh Howard can get back on his game, the Wizards might actually be competitive the rest of the season.

And it all seems to start with Blatche.

We’ll know more as those players get a chance to gel as they play Denver, Toronto and Chicago over the next 5 nights.
