If ever there were a worthy cause, this is certainly one to get behind. Few are more fragile, more worthy of being protected than children. Similarly, few outside the military are regarded as more “tough” than bikers (and with some bikers being current/former military, it only strengthens the image). How easy a decision it is to name the individuals involved with Bikers Against Child Abuse International as some of our Guys Of The Year for 2013.

Taking their mission to the streets and wherever needed, here’s how their official website describes their group’s purpose:

Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. We exist as a body of Bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live. We stand ready to lend support to our wounded friends by involving them with an established, united organization. We work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children. We desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that this child is part of our organization, and that we are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by affiliation, and our physical presence. We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse. We do not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner, however, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be that obstacle.

Worried about the bikers being unfit to be involved with children? Don’t be.

Prior to becoming the primary contacts for the child, the bikers are cleared for participation by clearing an extensive [FBI] background check, have ridden with the Chapter for at least a year, and have received special instructions from the Licensed Mental Health Professional.

Going to their website is probably the best way to fully understand and appreciate what these bikers do for children, and what an asset they are to their communities. On their site, you can also purchase merchandise to further show your support and help in their efforts.

This snippet from an article by WOWT in Omaha is just one of the many news stories you can find on their website:

Meeting the Bikers Against Child Abuse is a moment no one could forget. For Froggy, a former victim of child abuse, it’s a day that changed her life forever.

“It was just all quiet, and then you hear all these bikes driving down the road and pull into the parking lot,” said Froggy.

The bikers were riding to her aid. A group of tough, leather wearing men and women whose creed is to protect abused children.

Four years ago, Froggy and her two brothers were victims of physical and emotional abuse. It was because of that abuse B.A.C.A came into her life.

Referred by police and judges, B.A.C.A comes to the aid of abused children by helping in whatever way they can. Sometimes they are there to listen, other times just to stand guard, and they even go into the courtroom when a child must testify against their abuser.

“Actually I had one trial that I had to go to and sit. And when he went up to the stand, I had so many mixed emotions of fear and hatred toward the guy,” recalls Froggy. “And then B.A.C.A. was just sitting right next to me and just kinda patting my leg. As soon as I looked over at them and they looked at me, I realized he is never going to be able to hurt me again and my brothers.”

What a great service they provide!
