WWE Champion CM Punk is currently amidst a historic reign with arguably the top championship belt in professional wrestling. Many of his fans and critics alike are are wondering just when someone will beat him for the title. Given his track record at the yearly Night Of Champions pay per view, we’re guessing September 16th, 2012 might be the night:

Night Of Champions 2007

Due to the now notorious “no show” by Chris Benoit on a night of terrible tragedy, CM Punk faced John Morrison for the ECW Championship. It is widely discussed that CM Punk was to defeat Benoit that evening in a match which likely would’ve been one of the best of the year. Because Morrison replaced Benoit in the match, he was the one who was victorious.

Night Of Champions 2008

Despite being the holder of the Money In The Bank briefcase, CM Punk was unbooked at the event, and WWE waited until the following night on RAW to have him cash in the briefcase – an opportunity which won him the World Heavyweight Championship.

Night Of Champions 2009

Jeff Hardy defeated Punk to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

Night Of Champions 2010 

Big Show defeated Punk. In less than 5 minutes. In Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

Night Of Champions 2011 

Triple H defeated Punk in a No Disqualifications match partially in thanks to outside interference from Kevin Nash.

Night Of Champions 2012 – September 16th

The event is set to take place in Boston, the hometown of John Cena. Not only is Cena featured on the event’s poster, but he also has a valid case for a rematch against the champion, with their SummerSlam match ending in controversy.
