For the first weekend in October 2012, TAKEN 2 roared into theaters and blew away its competition, including its predecessor.
With a tally of $49.5 M in ticket sales, TAKEN 2 nearly earned more than all of the rest of the top four films combined (~ $54 M). HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, PITCH PERFECT and LOOPER were all in their second week. FRANKENWEENIE debuted in the #5 spot, with $11.4 M in sales.
The first TAKEN film, whose lifetime gross was $145 M, had a first weekend earnings of $24.7 M on a budget of $25 M. The sequel had a budget of $45 M.
