10552578_247975182068375_4190039721371320466_nThe world of Cosplay is getting bigger and bigger and time goes by. And what was once something done by the nerds in your school has now become the activity for the cool kids and good looking. But don’t be fooled. Cosplay is something that allows us to connect with that old childhood feeling of playing pretend. One of the people connecting to that feeling is Alexikins, who started Cosplaying around 2012. This “rookie” is beginning to get her feet wet in a culture that seems to be growing by the minute. She kindly has agreed to take a break to answer a few questions for us.

Mr. Incredible: What got you started?

Alexikins: I am a huge comic book collector and Batman fan. I didn’t have the confidence to dress up for any conventions until Comicon 2012 in Montreal. My friends convinced to go as Catwoman, so I put together a quick Catwoman Costume and the reaction from everyone there was positive. I had my picture taken multiple times, I met great people and putting a smile on kids’ faces made my day. Ever since then, I couldn’t get enough. Cosplay is my adult way of pretending to reenact the characters in my comic books. I love the fact that you can escape reality and become someone extraordinary for a day. Brings me back to my childhood. One of the best feelings in the world for me!

Mr. Incredible: What have been some of your favorite Cosplays?

Alexikins: I am just starting out but for now my favorite is Catwoman. I am currently in the process of getting a new Catwoman costume made based on the Catwoman Comic book series that came out in 1993. Catwoman is headstrong, fierce, and tough. I guess it is somewhat a reflection of my character in real life and that’s what makes me so drawn to her. I can’t wait to explore another favourite character of mine which is Harley Quinn. Hopefully I can start the process of that costume soon. Harley Quinn has a crazy and mischievous character I hope I can pull off. I also loved my Penguin Cosplay. I have a couple more ideas in mind for the future. Creating the female version of a character is much more challenging and fun.10419544_245889042276989_1603354635742836169_n

Mr. Incredible: Who are some of the Cosplayers that you always keep an eye on?

Alexikins:  I have a met a lot of awesome Cosplayers so far. I am an amateur and my journey is just beginning and they have been nothing but helpful and kind so far! One of my favorite Cosplayers is Spider Inferno Cosplay from my hometown Montreal. I also keep an eye on the beautiful Brea Bia Cosplay and of course Jessica Nigri is out of this world. My biggest Cosplay crush is of course the talented Anthony Misiano!

Mr. Incredible: Seeing as you have just started your adventure into Cosplaying, is it exactly what you thought it would be like before you got started?

Alexikins:  I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I started. I did it just for fun and that first experience opened up a whole new world for me that I can’t get enough of. It is a community that’s accepting no matter who you are and you’re allowed to be anybody you want. The best part about it is meeting new people who share the same interests and you can relate to them.

Mr. Incredible: How hard is it to make your outfits?

Alexikins: I am currently having a designer from Montreal help me with my Catwoman Cosplay. I must say, searching for the right fabric and color has been stressful! I admire anyone who can make their own outfits! I am happy to say that after many, many, many stores we have finally found the right fabric for my cosplay. I had my Cat Cowl made by ReevzFX. It was definitely worth the wait! I am not a patient person and I get way to excited and stressed waiting! The only factor that stresses me out is the waiting game. I definitely over think things and I need to learn how to calm down.

Mr. Incredible: Have you ever wanted to do a hero or villains, but decided that the outfit would leave too little to the imagination?

Alexikins: Yes, I was nervous trying to pull off my Penguin Cosplay haha! It was not that revealing but it was the first time that I wore a body suit out in the open. I admire and respect anyone that can pull off characters that have revealing outfits. At the moment, I don’t have the guts to do that. Maybe in the future when I gain more confidence and get more comfortable being in the Cosplay scene. When I reach my fitness goal, I am planning to display my achievement through a She-Hulk Cosplay. I am definitely excited about that one.

Mr. Incredible: Is there such thing as going too overboard with a Cosplay Design?

Alexikins: No I don’t think so. People do this to express themselves and their creativity however they want. That’s whats great about seeing other Cosplays. You get to admire everyones version of their favorite characters. It’s amazing to watch everyones imagination and designs come to life!

Mr. Incredible: What do you look for in a good Cosplay?

Alexikins: I don’t like to look at who has the best costume. Everyone has their own budget and time allowance so I base it on how well you can portray the character. That is something I, myself am working on. Acting like the character I’m Cosplaying. I am still trying to break out of my shell!

Mr. Incredible: How do you feel about geeky and Cosplay being the new sexy?

Alexikins: I think it’s awesome! Being a geek and loving comic books and Cosplay is sexy!

Mr. Incredible: Seeing as you are also into fitness, could we see you doing any fitness modeling?

Alexikins: I would love for that to happen in the near future as soon as I have reached my fitness goal. I decided to change my lifestyle 7 months ago and I’m proud of how far I’ve gotten so far! There’s only room for more progress. I got more into Cosplaying the past couple of months because of my lifestyle change. 10501965_247177118814848_6561562330460002091_n

Mr. Incredible: Will we ever see you do any mainstream modeling?

Alexikins: I have done some fashion Runway and photo shoots when I was younger but I never liked the environment. I think I’ll stick to Cosplay Modelling for now. It’s much more accepting and you can pursue it no matter what size or how tall you are.

Mr. Incredible: What are some of the comic books that you are reading at the moment?

Alexikins: I am currently reading the Catwoman series from 1993. Trying to get into character for my new cosplay;) I am also re-reading Hush. That one is definitely one of my favorites. I still have so many comics I need to read. I have an addiction. Whenever I’m having a bad day, instead of going out and buying clothes or shoes, I go out and buy comic books.

Mr. Incredible: How do you feel about Ben Affleck taking on the role of Batman?

Alexikins: Hmmm.. at first I wasn’t too happy because I am a huge Christian Bale fan. I will give Ben Affleck a chance. They must of chose him for a reason! I will judge and give my official opinion after I see him play the role of Batman. Hopefully he plays it better than he played Daredevil lol. I have to admit that the photos of Ben Affleck as Batman look pretty awesome. I’m extremely excited for the movie to come out.

Mr. Incredible: What is your fav. Harry Potter Movie?

Alexikins: Prisoner of Azkaban and The Half-Blood Prince are my favorite. I can’t get enough of Harry Potter. I watch one of the movies almost every night. After a long day I just love to escape in a Harry Potter movie. It puts me in a happy place. Sometimes I put on my glasses and hold my wand and just sit there in complete bliss.

Mr. Incredible: Well thank you for taking time our to answer some questions. Is there anything else you would like to say to the fans and the readers?

Alexikins: I would like to thank everyone who is supporting me through this journey! I have gotten nothing but love and good feedback from everyone. This is just the beginning and I can’t wait to show off my future Cosplays! You can follow me on Instagram @Alexikins10 and my new Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/AlexikinsCosplay for more updates and pictures. I have a few photo shoots lined up and I am super excited about them. Thank you for reaching out to me and offering me this opportunity on your website!
