According to deadline, Beetlejuice may be coming back from the dead again. David Katzenberg  (Producer of the MTV show The Hardtime of RJ Berger) and  “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”author Seth Grahame-Smith have just signed a two-year first-look feature producing deal at Warner Bros. Pictures. One of their first projects is expected to be that of a Beetle juice sequel. It was stressed in the article it WILL NOT be a remake, but rather the plan is to reboot it by advancing  the storyline of the original.  The two met at CBS when they did work on a series of Web Series with Michael Cera (Superbad, Juno).

Grahame-Smith did some scripting work for Tim Burton on “Dark Shadows” and his script for “Beetlejuice 2” will be one of two scripts that are part of the first look deal. Burton also produced the upcoming film version of Grahame-Smith’s “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”.

I don’t know whether to be happy about this, or sad. I love Beetlejuice, and it’s one of my favorite movies. Graham-Smithe seems like he could handle the material well, given the books he’s written and his involvement with Burton’s new movie, but the Producer Katzenberg I’m a little more unsure of, as we’ve seen terrible producers turn great scripts into trash. I guess what we have to do is wait and see the if script actually is written, and if the studios go forward with it.  So until then, I’ll reserve my judgement.
