The bag containing the Zapps Voodoo Gumbo chips indicates that the flavor was born on accident when an employee accidentally spilled spices from a shelf. What a fortunate mistake it was for us.

It’s hard to put a finger on the tastes involved in these chips. It’s certainly sweet, and it definitely has a somewhat muted tomato taste (far more subtle than the Spicy Creole Tomato variety from Zapps, though understandably so, given the names). They’re a bit smokey with the paprika involved, and there’s a hint of turmeric I caught a hint of after a few handfuls.

One thing is for certain, these chips are addicting. They’re hard to describe, and all I can do is to suggest you pick up a bag.
