I can guarantee one thing this week: Robby Gordon will not have a wreck this week.  Mostly because he did not qualify for this week’s Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS).  I pick on him a lot, but it seems that most weeks, he is wrecking or wrecking someone else.  Scott Riggs also failed to qualify this week, leaving them to be the only two drivers not to make the 43 car field.

Kasey Kahne broke the track record set by Matt Kenseth in 2011 with a speed of 190.040 mph.  15 drivers overall surpassed Kenseth’s record.  For more information see the article on Nascar.com.  The top ten is as follows (with four other notables listed):

              5              Kasey Kahne      Chevrolet

              18           Kyle Busch          Toyota

              29           Kevin Harvick     Chevrolet

              88           Dale Earnhardt Jr.  Chevrolet

              15           Clint Bowyer      Toyota

              48           Jimmie Johnson   Chevrolet

              14           Tony Stewart     Chevrolet

              20           Joey Logano       Toyota

              16           Greg Biffle          Ford

           56           Martin Truex Jr.Toyota

           17           Matt Kenseth    Ford

           24           Jeff Gordon        Chevrolet

           11           Denny Hamlin    Toyota

           39           Ryan Newman  Chevrolet

I still stand by my prediction that Dale Jr. is set for a win in the next few races.  However, I would never count out anyone listed above.  For the full field click on this link: Race Lineup.  Notes from this week start with Juan Pablo Montoya crashing in practice and a piece of Montoya’s car damaged Kyle Busch’s car as well.  During Happy Hour practice, Jimmie Johnson damaged his car when he spun out and hit the wall.  He is still slated to start in 6th place and definitely will be in contention to take the checkered flag.
