Wondy is a D20 Girl. Cosplayer. Comic Book Enthusiast. Disney Freak. Performer. Professional Tentacle Monster. Vlogger. Blogger, Podcaster. And just a kid from Brooklyn. But to me, she is a wonderful example of loving yourself. Being a full figured woman she displays great confidence that should make her a role model for those with self image issues.

Jack Nickelz: So what got you started on your Cosplay adventure?

Undiesofwondy: My Cosplay adventure got started when I was about 12 or 13. I was really into the anime “Naruto” and had seen a masquerade entry on YouTube. My mom made me a Sakura Haruno dress for Halloween that year. I attended my first con 3 years later and after that I knew I wanted to Cosplay too! Plus, having a strong theatre background certainly helped some! 1078735_617734561599587_649623029_o

Jack Nickelz: What was your first Convention in Cosplay like?

Undiesofwondy: The first real Cosplay I ever did was Ash Ketchum from Pokémon. I had such a positive response while Cosplaying him also! I met Veronica Taylor – a voice actress from Pokémon, and she loved the Cosplay! It made me want to get way more adventurous for future cons.

Jack Nickelz: What have been some of your fav. Cosplays to do?

Undiesofwondy: Tough choice! I loved being Wonder Woman and Black Canary. They’re my favorite super heroines!

Jack Nickelz: Do you have a Cosplay that you are becoming known for?

Undiesofwondy: For a while, people knew me as “The Black Canary girl” because I ran a Black Canary tumblr blog. Now– it’s hard to say. People know me for Cosplays, podcasts, and articles I have written, also! But given that my name is Undiesofwondy – people really liked my Wonder Woman!

Jack Nickelz: How do you pick out which Cosplay to do?

Undiesofwondy: I only Cosplay characters I like! So every character means something to me.

Jack Nickelz: Now did your crafty come before or as a result of your Cosplaying?

Undiesofwondy: My mom is very artistic, and as I said, I’ve always been a theatre geek, so a lot of my craftiness comes from there. I’ve also gotten more creative as I’ve learned more skills in Cosplay.

Jack Nickelz: What have been some of your hardest pieces to work on?

Undiesofwondy: My hardest pieces are usually SFX makeup pieces! I’ve gotten so much better at it as I’ve gotten older but liquid latex baffles me sometimes. It can be temperamental. Hand painting can be frustrating as well…I want everything to be perfect!

Jack Nickelz: How long does it normally take you to do a piece?

Undiesofwondy: It really depends. I’m the “stay up all night once I get started” type, though. When I get creative it’s hard to put my creative juices to rest.

Jack Nickelz: How you ever had to adjust a piece because it was a bit too reveling?

Undiesofwondy: Oh god. All the time! I’ve always been the girl with the huge boobies. It makes life difficult sometimes, because the way armor lies on big boobies vs. small boobies — it makes a difference! I’ve always tried to make sure that my Cosplays are family friendly-ish. But my boobies make it difficult!

Jack Nickelz: What are your thoughts on Cosplay bullying and body shaming?

Undiesofwondy: It’s just plain wrong. I’ve been on the receiving end of some brutal bullying, both in Cosplay and in real life. It never feels good. Just be nice. You never know what karma has in store. Don’t ruin someone’s day.

Jack Nickelz: What is The D20 Girls Project?

Undiesofwondy: The D20 girls project is a non-profit organization dedicated to ridding girls of the stigma of “fake geek girl”. I joined this summer and it’s been a wonderful experience! We do charity work and fundraising, spreading our message across the US with our various states! I’m the manager of NY. If you’re interested, I highly suggest checking out http://d20girls.org and joining us!

Jack Nickelz: what made you get involved with “Love Your Cosplay Body”?

Undiesofwondy: Rob, the founder of the page, approached me to be one of the admins and of course I couldn’t say no! I love everything the page stands for. We are at 15,000+ followers now, so people clearly love what we stand for too!

Jack Nickelz: What do your friends and family think of your Cosplaying?

Undiesofwondy: My boyfriend and I met while I was in Cosplay at last year’s NYCC. Being that he is used to conventions and is a frequent attendee at many events, he is used to Cosplay and is always helping me out. My family gets a little confused sometimes, but when they see me working events and volunteering in Cosplay, they see that it’s more than just dressing up in costume, it can change lives!

Jack Nickelz: What future Cosplays can we expect to see from you?

Undiesofwondy: I’ve got a bunch planned for 2015! My next one should be Astrid from HTTYD, so make sure you’re checking out http://Facebook.com/undiezofwondy/ for Cosplay progress and upcoming con announcements!

Jack Nickelz: Thank you for taking time to do this. Is there anything that you would like to say to the fans and readers?

Undiesofwondy: Be you! Don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. You’re beautiful no matter what as long as you’re a good person. Thank you for having me as an interview!
