UFC is putting on a Fight Night tomorrow despite having events the past two weekends. I do predictions for all the other shows, so now it’s time for this one.
Main Card
Lightweight bout:
Kenny Florian vs Takanori Gomi
The only times I’ve ever seen KenFlo lose have been with the Lightweight Championship on the line – most recently to Georges St-Pierre, and that’s not the case on Wednesday.
Prediction: Kenny Florian by submission
Heavyweight bout:
Roy Nelson vs Stefan Struve
I could find some Politically Correct way to say it by using the word “unique”, but let’s face it, this is the Freak Show fight. Struve is 7 feet tall and Roy Nelson has a big gut. Neither of those reasons should stop them from eventually being contenders in the division, they’re just differentiators you’re sure to notice when watching on Wednesday. They both look to have decent Jiu Jitsu skills. Nelson probably has the power, but Struve has the reach and the speed.
This prediction is dedicated to Brody.
Prediction: Stefan Struve by Knockout
Middleweight bout:
Nate Quarry vs. Jorge Rivera
I can’t blame Nate Quarry for his past two losses (a submission loss to one of the best BJJ in the world Demian Maia; a knockout loss to Rich Franklin), and in his last fight he won Fight Of The Night honors.
Jorge Rivera hasn’t done anything to impress me.
Prediction: Nate Quarry by knockout
Lightweight bout:
Ross Pearson vs. Dennis Siver
Ross Pearson fights like a bulldog. Very impressive.
Dennis Siver has great knockout power, as displayed in 2 of his past 3 fights, but Ross Pearson has never been knocked out. I’m playing the odds on this one.
Prediction: Ross Pearson by submission
Preliminary Card
Lightweight bout:
Andre Winner vs. Rafaello Oliveira
Andre Winner hasn’t looked impressive in his past four fights, losing 2 by decision, 1 went to a decision draw, and he was able to beat one of his Ultimate Fighter cast mates.
Rafaello Oliveira lost one by decision in his last five, winning 2 by decision and winning 2 by submission.
Prediction: Rafaello Oliveira by submission
Lightweight bout:
Jacob Volkmann vs. Ronnys Torres
The loser of this one is likely out of UFC before 2010 is over.
Volkmann has lost his only two UFC fights, one by decision, one by submission.
Ronnys Torres lost his only UFC fight, a decision to a superior opponent.
Prediction: Ronnys Torres by decision
Lightweight bout:
Rob Emerson vs. Nik Lentz
Emerson has looked almost as good in his recent losses as Lentz has in wins.
Prediction: Emerson by decision
Lightweight bout:
Caol Uno vs. Gleison Tibau
Uno has looked decent against some quality opponents the past couple years.
Tibau was unimpressive over the same span in his fights.
Prediction: Caol Uno by decision
Middleweight bout:
Yushin Okami vs. Lucio Linhares
Linhares hasn’t done anything in UFC yet, but Okami beat one of my favorites (Evan Tanner)
Prediction: Yushin Okami by knockout
Middleweight bout:
Gerald Harris vs Mario Miranda
Gerald Harris hasn’t lost a fight in 2.5 years.
Mario Miranda has never fought in UFC, nor has he ever fought on the East Coast.
Prediction: Gerald Harris with a knockout to welcome Miranda to UFC
Welterweight bout:
Charlie Brenneman vs. Jason High
The only loss on Brenneman’s record was by decision, though he doesn’t have any UFC experience.
High was knocked out in Dream, but that’s DREAM, which is big time over-seas.
Prediction: Jason High by decision, showing off his experience
There’s no reason you need to give that KenFlo is gonna win except to say that he’s KenFlo! That guy’s a methodical monster, and I’d like to see him take on GSP if they can get the weight limits right.
I don’t know why people always like to be hating on my man Big Country Roy Nelson, but he’s gonna knock that human giraffe all over the cage and then sit on him like he did to Kimbo on Ultimate Fighters.
I agree with you about Nate Quarry, but the rest of the fights? I don’t know and don’t care about them guys.
