UFC 153 started off as a good fight card then went to a great fight card and now is back to a good fight card. But, such is life for the UFC anymore with the string of injuries that fighters are sustaining.

UFC 153 takes place at the USBC arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. On October 13th.

The Facebook fights start at 6:45 P.M. ET

The FX fights start at 8:00 P.M. ET

The PPV card starts at 10:00 P.M. ET

Demian Maia vs Rick Story

Maia is fighting in his home country of Brazil and will be amped up to do so. Story is coming off his first win in his last 3 years. Maia is a Jiu-Jitsu master and definitely has the edge in the takedown and ground game aspect. I give a slight edge in the striking dept to Story. Story will need to stay off the ground and out of the clinch to have a chance in this fight.

Prediction – Demian Maia via submission in the 2nd round

Phil Davis vs Wagner Prado

These two fighters are going to give it another go and try to get through more than the first 88 seconds of a fight. Their last fight was called due to an inadvertent eye poke by Davis. The doctor checked out Prado and said that Prado couldn’t continue. This is a classic Wrestler vs Striker match-up. The edge is that Prado has some good takedown defense. But if Davis is able to take Prado down that could be a game changer.

Prediction – Wagner Prado via TKO/KO 2nd round

Jon Fitch vs Erick Silva

Jon Fitch has to be worried about not only Silva’s striking but Silva’s ground game. Erick Silva won’t look to take an opponent down, but as he showed in his last fight if he gets taken down he knows how to pass guard and get a win via submission. Fitch is a tough fighter but Silva seems to go to another level when the cage door closes.

Prediction – Erick Silva via TKO/KO in the 1st round.

Glover Teixeira vs Fabio Maldonado

Glover was supposed to face Rampage Jackson, who had to pull out due to a knee injury, Shogun Rua was offered to fight Glover but turned it down. Many people have have said that Glover is a very tough fight, due to his power in his punches. He has incredible power in his left hook. Fabio also has some heavy hands, he also has a good chin. Both fighters are well trained in Jiu-Jitsu. This should be a fun and exciting fight. On paper it has the potential to be fight of the night.

Prediction – Glover Teixeira via KO/TKO 1st round

Minotauro “Big Nog” Nogueira vs Dave Herman

The biggest question for this fight is how will Big Nog do after his last fight, in which he had his arm broken by Frank Mir. Big Nog has the edge in striking and the ground game. He is also fighting in his home country. This could be an exciting fight but only if Herman is able to stay off the ground and pick his spots when attacking Big Nog. I see this fight ending quickly and violently.

Prediction – Big Nog via submission in the 1st round

Anderson Silva vs Stephan Bonnar (Light Heavyweight Fight)

Anderson Silva stepped up and offered to fill a hole when the main event was lost due to an injury, he was offered Stephan Bonnar and they both agreed.  Anderson Silva is a 13-1 favorite, it’s the largest margin for a main event ever. It’s also Anderson Silva’s 3rd fight at 205. This could be Stephan Bonnar’s biggest fight of his career, You can debate his first fight against Forrest Griffin was the biggest. Silva is the pound for pound best MMA fighter in the world and he is undefeated in the UFC. All this leads to what could be considered a trap fight for Silva. Does anyone expect Bonnar to win. NO. Do people want to see an upset. Yes. If Bonnar can get top position on the ground it could be interesting.

Prediction – Anderson Silva via decision ( It is only a 3 round fight due to the short notice for both fighters)
