Different cultures have different customs for how they show respect or lack thereof.

In Detroit, when the hockey fans get a hat trick from one of their players, they do a variation of the typical hat-throwing. A daring portion of the fans each throw a small octopus onto the ice.

President Bush found out that in some areas of the world, they show disrespect by throwing shoes.

Last weekend, when Tiger Woods was attempting a put on the seventh green at CordeValle, a fan ran up and threw a hot dog at him. Before you look up which part of the world CordeValle is in, I’ll save you the trouble. It’s in one of the least likely places you’d expect to find a hot dog thrower.

It’s a luxury resort in California Wine Country.

It landed short, and while it didn’t cause his putt to go awry, Woods did notice.

Some guy just came running on the green, and he had a hot dog, and evidently … I don’t know how he tried to throw it, but I was kind of focusing on my putt when he started yelling. Next thing I know, he laid on the ground, and looked like he wanted to be arrested because he … put his hands behind his back and turned his head.

Given the stories we’ve heard about Tiger over the past couple years and his apparent proclivities / addictions, I’m surprised this is the first we’re hearing of something being thrown at Tiger Woods… and that the item was this tame.

The un-named man was arrested on misdemeanor charges of disturbing the peace. The golf course was just happy it wasn’t a chili dog.
