Edition… THE RE-OVERING!!… or RE-UNDERING?! (Name in progress.)

We now jump into the “MAIN EVENTS!” Just so you know, I’m approaching this from the matches I consider worthy of being called Main Events. Clearly if you read part one, you know what matches are remaining.

AJ vs. Y2J

HOW WE GOT HERE!

At the Royal Rumble something many thought they’d never… E-E-E-EVER (see what I did there?) see happen, did. AJ Styles stepped out into a WWE Arena. The veteran of many places like: New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Ring of Honor, House of Hardcore, etc. etc. etc. but NO OTHER TELEVISED WRESTLING PRODUCTS IN THE US! ESPECIALLY ONES THAT MIGHT MAKE AN… (wait for it) IMPACT!

Anyway… AJ styles was in the WWE. He got eliminated from the Rumble by Kevin Owens, and we wondered if maybe that was where his first feud would find itself, but instead Chris Jericho stepped into the picture. They had a series of three matches. AJ won two of the three. They then teamed up to form Y2AJ, and even got a tag title shot against the New Day! BUT? That was not to last long (t-shirts be damned). Jericho Code Breakered the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, repeatedly. He was sick of fans chanting for AJ Styles. Sick of people overlooking him. Styles hadn’t proven ANYTHING in the WWE. They went back and forth. Jericho kept costing Styles matches. AJ Kept asking for matches. It wasn’t until this past Monday when Jericho ended up losing to Zack Ryder (not a typo… also WOO WOO WOO, you know it!) – did Jericho accept Style’s offer for another 1 on 1 match up. Good News: They have had very good to great matches in their previous trilogy. Considering the two guys involved that’s not exactly a surprise. Bad News: WWE booking has a nasty habit of fatiguing the HELL out of a feud with too many matches/interactions. The best thing is this will be the first match with a clearly bad guy Jericho. So the dynamic can be different, even if the match up isn’t.

FAVORITE!

AJ Styles: -310. Jericho is arguably the most selfless “Legend” in history. Remember he lost to Fandango at a Wrestlemania once #NeverForget. AJ Styles is being built nicely since his debut. This is one last page in their rivalry.

UNDERDOG!

Chris Jericho: +175. Not out of the realm of possibility for Jericho to win via shenanigans and treachery. IF they want a fifth match between these two, that is very possible. Possible is not likely. He’s the ‘dog.

PROP BETS O’ THE MATCH!

Special Light Bright Jacket? Yes -150. No +100.
Over/Under Jericho “Bay-bay”’s: 8.5.
Styles wins with: Clash -120. Calf Cutter +50. Phenomenal Forearm +150. All the above: +350.

Divas Champ

HOW WE GOT HERE!

Back in the Summer the “Diva’s Revolution” began. It didn’t go as smoothly as we would have liked. Random factions of women fought for… I don’t know WHAT reason… bu they fought… and fought… and Nikki Bella became the longest reigning Diva’s Champion of all time. THEN? They decided a slow course correction. Groups broke up. Eventually Charlotte earned a championship opportunity (after Nikki became the longest reigning champ in history, of course) – And just like that the REAL Revolution, at least on the main roster, began. Charlotte slowly got corrupted to the dark side as her inner Flair seeped out. Ego. Cheating. All that jazz. A match with Becky Lynch had Becky come up short, but was as close to seeing these women close to their “NXT form” as we have. A Brie Bella defense was a bridge to get us here.

Meanwhile… in “Bosston” – Sasha Banks, while not always the highest profile of wrestlers in the Women’s Division (if the rumors are TRUE, this will be accurate after Mania) – WAS wracking up an impressive win/loss. As in, she’d win and win and win, and to date has not been pinned or submitted. She hold victories over both of the previous Diva’s Champions, while they were currently the champion (I’m guessing don’t NEED to tell you, those matches were non-title).

After Lynch came up short, and Charlotte was busy with Brie. Team BAE (Best at Everything for the NXT novice) staked claims as to WHO should get a title shot. They mixed up with Sasha’s former running mates, and set off to fight to see who should get the Mania match for the Diva’s Championship. One awkwardly executed(he said being kind) double pin, and Charlotte beatdown resulting in a no contest later? We got ourselves a TRIPLE THREAT!

A little speculation. I feel like how great Becky was in the lead up and match with Charlotte, she kicked in the door to this match. That it was probably a one on one with Charlotte and Sasha, but Becky has been so good and done so well that they ended up doing this. Also knowing you can then get more mileage out of one on ones down the line.

As you might tell from my past work, or how much I’m writing on this, say, compared to Trips/Roman? I’m very excited for this match. The stakes are HIGH for these competitors. Not just the championship, but the platform they’ve been given on THIS STAGE? Is almost unprecedented. There is absolutely an undercurrent of them fighting for the chance to get to KEEP having high profile matches like this month in and month out. That this match could cement everything they’ve meant to wrestling the last year plus.

I have no doubt there are detractors about women’s wrestling and its place, but watching these three (and special shout out to Bayley) do what they did in NXT I have the upmost faith in the match they can have at Mania. This was one of the best stories they told going in to Mania. This is easily a top two or three match on the card for me.

FAVORITE!

Sasha Banks: -200. I once wrote a column entitled “There’s Money in the Banks”. I think she’s one of the best wrestlers in the world. Even when they didn’t have a lot for her? They protected her. I think this is the Boss’s moment to shine.

UNDERDOG(s)!
Becky Lynch +100. Storewide, this probably makes the most sense. She’s been chasing longer. Has had a more turbulent story with Charlotte. She also has grown into being a really good fiery babyface. It would not be WAY out of left field if she won. Still an underdog. Sasha is their future. Its just a question if the future is NOW! (boom! NXT reference) – If its not? Maybe they give Becky a huge Wrestlemania moment.

Charlotte +200. Not a big underdog. If they want to make the chase continue, maybe they have her retain. I don’t see it. She got her title win, and has had a nice reign. Someone is getting a Wrestlemania moment this year, but its not Miss Flair.

PROP BETS O’ THE MATCH!

Over/Under 1.5 “This is Awesome Chants” (root for the over.)
Snoop-A-Loop (Does Snoop accompany Sasha for her entrance) Yes -150. No +200. For Shizzle -400.
Does Becky get gassed running the Mania Ramp? No! Her Lass is in shape -350. It is a LONG run, so of course. +175.
Pic Flair gets ejected: Yes -200. No +400.

Ambrose vs. Lesnar

HOW WE GOT HERE!
Back at the Royal Rumble the Wyatts interfered and eliminated Brock Lesnar. During this Dean Ambrose was scratching and clawing his way to being THE man. First he was in the final two of the Rumble. Then he, Roman, and Brock had a triple threat match to determine a #1 Contender. Roman won. Dean, in a similar fashion to Becky Lynch, had kicked down a door and next thing we know he and Lesnar are brawling in the parking garage. Ambrose is constantly calling out Lesnar… and constantly getting destroyed, but he keeps getting back up. During all this he gets a title shot at a WWE Live Special in Toronto, dubbed Roadblock. This match ends up being a No Holds Barred Street Fight. Basically playing into Dean’s past on the indies as Jon Moxley and the crazy death match stuff he had done. Also adds a layer because Lesnar is basically an unbeatable monster. So maybe it takes WEAPONS to slay the beast…

FAVORITE!

Brock Lesnar: -300. Even with the weapons, I can’t see them having Ambrose win here. Lesnar rolls and then goes on “Spring Break”. We’ll see you for Summerslam Brock!

UNDERDOG!

Dean Ambrose: +250. Unless they really REALLY decide Ambrose is “The Man”? There is little chance of a win. The only other possibility involves the Wyatts once again poking their beards into Brock’s bidness. Still he walks out Mania a much bigger star than when he entered. He’s one of the main events in, arguably, the best story they’ve told this Wrestlemania season.

PROP BETS O’ THE MATCH!

Over/Under 76 seconds before our first weapon.
There will be blood: No -200. Yes +400.

Trips Reigns

HOW WE GOT HERE!

Triple H won the Royal Rumble for the WWE Heavyweight Championship. Then… DESPITE the Authority saying they wanted to keep Roman from being champion? They put him, along with Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar into a #1 Contender’s Match… Because? Because! After briefly having most positive reactions from the crowd, the inevitability and just how they handle Reigns in general turned the crowd against him… again. Hunter beat him down and gets roundly cheered. Roman stalks Hunter backstage. Beats HIM up, gets mostly booed. It could be a very long night in Dallas
for Roman Reigns. Also, the level of stubbornness from the WWE to “Stay the course” with Reigns is getting so absurd that I am super intrigued to see exactly HOW the crowd handles this match. Match itself should be good. There is talk it’ll be No DQ. Which will mean all of the top three matches will have stipulations.

FAVORITE!

Roman Reigns -400. This is a story that is year old. Going back to Rollins cashing in and being the in ring head of the Authority. The only logical thought is that Roman wins (Barring this and the Hell in a Cell actually impact each other… more on that in a few)

UNDERDOG!

Triple H +200. IF… They want Shane to beat the Undertaker, then having Hunter retain here via super shenanigans and then having Roman be the one to come out and take out Taker to help Shane win? Its POSSIBLE. Still doesn’t solve the problem of Roman getting booed out of buildings, but would be a way to finish up this story without Roman winning the WWE Championship.

PROP BETS O’ THE MATCH!

Sledgehammer: Yes -400. No +300. It got stolen and used by Ambrose +1500.
Over/Under 1.5 people run in.
Over/Under 6 minutes for Triple H’s entrance.
Superman vs. Batman references Yes -120. No +200. (have they done this on commentary?)

SHane vs. Taker

HOW WE GOT HERE!

First, rumor has it THIS will close the show. And? It probably should. I am not someone who thinks the title HAS to go on last. If there is an absolute no brainer, i.e. Rock vs. Hogan, or potentially Taker’s last Mania match? Yeah. You should headline it. It also doesn’t hurt that Roman vs. Hunter has such strong crowd high jacking and revolting on the match possibilities. From a storyline aspect it even makes sense. CONTROL. OF. RAW. Is on the line. Authority is out of power. The company at LARGE is at stake.

Anyway, this started with a Vincent J. McMahon award for something-something. I forget the exact title. It was named for Vince’s dad. Given to his daughter. Which was interrupted by his son (HERE COMES THE MONEY!!). Shane returned and talked about wanting to save the company. Talking about slipping ratings. Disgruntled fans. Etc. Etc. He wanted control of Raw. Vince said you could have it, if you have ONE match at Mania. Beat the Undertaker. Win Raw, but Shane also had to put up a lockbox of family secrets on the line as well. Which… I mean… from a standpoint now Shane has put up TOO much. If this info is THAT inflammatory can’t he just blackmail vince into to at least giving him Smackdown… at MINIMUM Superstars, Main Event, Sunday Night Heat, and Velocity! Still. Shane agreed, and for some reason, so did Taker. I still want some sort of reason as to WHY Taker would just shrug his shoulders and be like, “sure Vince, I’ll kill your kid.” No. All we got was everyone calling everyone else some sort of bitch. Taker saying Shane’s blood is on Vince’s hands. Vince saying if Taker loses this will be his last Wrestlemania… which… uh… if Shane wins? Shane controls Raw. Shane can just hire him back.

So yeah… the story has been convoluted. The theatrics have been fun, though. A couple brawls. Shane did the top rope elbow drop to the announce table this past Monday. This match WILL be wild and fun.

FAVORITE!

Undertaker: -350. He might lose his last match. He’s not losing his last match to Shane McMahon.

UNDERDOG!

Shane O’Mac: +400. Its been a fun nostalgia ride to see him back. Since his return the question has been “What will he do in THIS match?” If you wonder what that means, google his wrestling highlights. He tends to take some insane risks.

PROP BETS O’ THE MATCH!

Over/Under 4.5 run ins. This match could have all kinds of extracurriculars.
Top of the Cell? No -250. Yes +200. Shane WILL end up there! +1100.
Any debuts during this match? No -200. Yes +100.
Who we might see: Vince -1100. Stephanie -800 Pete Gas -400. John Cena -250. Triple H -200. Roman Reigns +100. Finn Balor +400.

Okay, there you have it. Tomorrow is Wrestlemania. Pre-show kicks off at 5pm (Est). This is a mammoth 6 hours of wrestling on the docket. So, place your bests wisely and responsibly. Remember its a marathon, not a sprint. Stay hydrated, and most importantly? Have fun. Enjoy the Mania. Follow me on twitter: @sirmhayesxiv
