Projecting the Field – SELECTION SUNDAY

Alas, here we are. It is Selection Sunday and almost all the basketball needed to determine the field has been played. We have four championship games today, but that should only determine seeding unless St. Bonaventure steals a seat by winning the Atlantic 10. Yesterday, I went 8 for 10 in predicting conference champions. Missouri won the Big 12, and they take over the fourth #1 seed. More than likely it will either be them or the Big 10 champion in that spot. Best case scenario for Missouri here isRead More

National Signing Day: Top 10 Classes

As opposed to ESPNU’s marathon coverage during NSD updating class rankings every hour it seemed, I’m here to give you a look at my top 10 classes after all the dust has settled. Of course you can assume most of the programs in the top 10, but there were a few surprises in the rest of the 25, which have been analyzed ad nauseam in the past week. This will be the last of my articles covering National Signing Day. Just Missed The Cut Oklahoma – They needed receivers andRead More

Urban Meyer to Ohio State

Well despite denying report after report, Urban Meyer will be indeed be the next head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team and the one to clean up Jim Tressel’s mess. The Webbernets, Twitterverse¬† and blogosphere erupted nearly simultaneously with the news of the hire. He will certainly have a huge task ahead of him as he inherits a prestigious program that has been stained by scandal and NCAA violations that forced Sweater Vest Man to resign earlier this year. So what does this mean for Ohio State goingRead More

College Football Week 13: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good HAIL: Ann Arbor’s long nightmare is over. They beat their mortal enemies the Buckeyes in convincing fashion in front of a uber-charged home crowd. Denard Robinson did what he does best, practically dancing around the field for some big runs and showed poise in the pocket, waiting for the play to develop instead of immediately tucking and running. The elation on the field after the game was more then visible as fans flooded the field. To most of the country this would seem like a long awaited winRead More

College Basketball: Big Ten Preview

When looking at the upcoming season for the Big Ten, there are two things that jump out the most. First of all, this is pretty much  a one team league. Ohio State is the heavy favorite to win the league title and it would take an enormous collapse, rash of injuries, etc in order to dethrone the Buckeyes. Second, while Ohio State is top of the class, there are alot of teams that could have big seasons. There are at least 6 teams that will make the postseason and asRead More

College Football Week 6: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good Arkansas: We all know that LSU and Bama are at the top of the SEC, but Arkansas is making a case for the #3 spot in the conference. They rallied to beat Texas A&M last week and blew out Auburn this week. The defense is improving each week and QB Tyler Wilson is playing extremely well. If they keep this up, they could give LSU some trouble in the SEC West. Arizona State: The Sun Devils are 5-1 and are silencing critics each and every week. They continueRead More

College Football Week 5: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good Wisconsin: In what some billed as a possible Big Ten title matchup, the Badgers had their way with Nebraska. Russell Wilson was absurd as the offense piled it on a Cornhusker team known for its defense. This was a huge statement win for Wisconsin and firmly puts them in the top spot in the Big Ten and on track for a spot in the conference’s first title game. Georgia: After an ugly 0-2 start, people were calling for coach Mark Richt’s head, figuratively speaking, but the Bulldogs haveRead More

College Football Week 3: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

After yet another exciting week of college football, it’s time for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. There were several other candidates for the spots, but the ones below stood out the most. I’ve also decided to hand out weekly awards to honor a few notable achievements. The Good Notre Dame: The Irish must feel relieved. If they had fallen to the Spartans, we would have seen just how red Brian Kelly’s face could have gotten. The game was close and some stuff wasn’t going well for the DomersRead More

College Football Week 2: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good Michigan v Notre Dame: How awesome was this game? Ok I know I’m biased because I’m a Mich alum, but that 4th quarter was must see TV. That is what college football is all about, the ups, downs and the unshakeable belief your team can come back from the biggest deficit. On a side note, when all was dismal and it was the end of the 3rd quarter, I decided it was time to start drinking. Look what happened at that point. I may be on to something.Read More

College Football: Big Ten Preview

This is the first in a series of articles I’ll be doing previewing the major conferences and perhaps a few select teams as well, more then likely ones I either attended or have a connection to somehow. I’m starting with the Big Ten, well because I’m a Big Ten guy. First off, I won’t be referring to the divisions as ‘Legends’ or ‘Leaders’ because they are incredibly lame names and who knows what Delaney was thinking. I read somewhere, can’t quite remember the place, that the divisions should be namedRead More
