Even if you don’t know it, you’re thankful for Eugene Polley.

It’s probably not a stretch of the imagination to assume that EVERY guy has benefited from the fruits of his ingenuity. This is why, despite having never met him, we mourn his death on Sunday at the age of 96.

In 1955, Eugene Polley invented the television remote control.

It’s because of him that you can not only remain on your couch for days with countless content options – from television shows and movies to video games – but you can also open garage doors, turn on ceiling fans and hundreds of other applications of the basic principles accredited to Polley.

Hardly his only creation, Polley can also be partially credited with concepts that lead to the DVD, car stereos and many of the advancements in radar technology in use by the Department Of Defense, with whom he worked during World War II.

And that’s why he’s a member of the GuysNation Hall Of Fame.
