After witnessing the Sabres destruction of the Thrashers in person Saturday nite in Buffalo, I was feeling alright about things … ok I was really pumped!  It was totally awesome watching them put up 8 goals!  24 seconds into the game, Pomms netted his 18th on the season and the rout was underway!  The last goal, the third power play tally on the nite, displayed some fantastic touch passing between Vanek and Pomms before Connolly finished off the play.  They ran Atlanta’s starting goaltender, Pavelec, out of the game between the first and second periods.  Ironically, it was about the same time I lost my voice at the game … coincidence?  It was the type of game the team needed going into the final stretch for the playoffs.  Miller was sharp, special teams looked great and the team carried the play.   Sunday, Nashville came into Buffalo in a very similar position in the West.  Fighting for their playoff lives, the Predators are in a race where a win or loss can place them as high as 6th and a low as 11th.  A must win for both teams.  Again, Buffalo carried the play for 57 minutes and held a 3-1 lead with 2:27 left.  A seemingly innocent goal from the Preds and it was a one goal game.  60 seconds later, Nashville netted another and the melt down was officially on.  27 seconds into Overtime and it’s a win for Nashville and tons of busted TVs in Buffalo.  They earned a point but in the bigger picture the Rangers won and pushed their 7th place lead to 5 points over the Sabres.  Buffalo needed to bounce back and Tuesday nite they did just that.  Travelling up to Montreal, where they were 2-3 versus the Habs this year, would take a huge effort to walk away with points.  You would think they lost as they were outshot 31-24, went 0 for 5 on the Power Play and lost the majority of the face-offs.  Despite the stats, the Sabres fought their way to a 2-0 victory to keep pace in the East.  On the back of Ryan Miller, who played one of his best games of the season, and two goals from the little guy Gerbe – Buffalo held off an onslaught from the Canadiens in the last minute of the game to grab the win.

Like I said before, it’s all about the points right now.  I predicted needing 18 and they’ve grabbed 5 in 3 games.  Let’s hope they keep this rolling when Florida visits Buffalo Friday.
