If you’re in the mood for seafood and you especially enjoy crab, this is a cost effective snack to enjoy to satisfy that craving. Be aware, however, that if you get a bag of these chips, you’d better be ready for some serious crab taste.
Unlike a crab chip option from a major chip manufacturer, there’s no difference in concentration of crab spices in these Route 11 options. Each chip that I tried (and I got through most of the bag) had the same strong crab taste, which wasn’t true for the other brand which will remain nameless in this article.
I don’t know that I’d say these were a spicy chip option, but there was definitely more than a hint of hotness. Not much more than a hint, but enough to add an extra little zing that I like when I order crab cakes at a restaurant, whether it’s from a sauce or the mixture.
Though it’s not how I experienced these chips, I’d imagine that these chips would pair up quite nicely with a seafood sub from Subway (or any other deli which might serve such an item, or if you were to make your own from crab meat and mayonnaise).
I’m a big fan of crabs and just about all other seafood, but the saltiness of these chips was off the charts. The “Salty and Spicy!” tag on the top left should definitely be larger. If you’re not in the mood for something so intense, you might be might be a little disappointed. Otherwise, Rob’s review is spot on.
