Ron Burgundy on CONAN

Insomniacs were rewarded with a rare treat last night on late-night television. In the middle of his show on TBS, legendary local television anchorman Ron Burgundy (a.k.a. Will Ferrell) interrupted Conan playing his famous jazz flute.

After he finished off a horribly “lip-synced” flute solo (which only added to the comedy) Burgundy took a few shots at the ginger-haired television host.

“I have one small criticism, and it’s probably something a professional like me would notice,” said Burgundy, “but Conan you look awful.”

As Conan tried to hold back a laugh, Ferrell — sorry, I mean Burgundy — continued his assault.

“You look like someone put a bright red fright wig on a skeleton,” said Burgundy, “and chucked it out of a helicopter. Yes, yes. I’m being KIND right now.”

But then Burgundy delivered perhaps the knockout punch when he added, “Go into your doctor’s office and point at your face and say, ‘Doc, it’s a page-one rewrite.'”

Of course, this was all comic fodder for Ferrell’s real purpose of appearing on the show, to announce that, yes, there WILL be an Anchorman sequel!

“I actually have an announcement to make,” said Burgundy, “As of 0900 Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to ‘Anchorman’.”

Almost immediately both the phrase ‘Conan’ and ‘Ron Burgandy’ (spelled incorrectly) began trending worldwide on twitter as the web lit up with the news.”

The original movie, perhaps one of the silliest, stupidest, and FUNNIEST comedies in years came out in 2004 and starred Will Ferrell along with Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell, David Koechner, and Christina Applegate.

But perhaps, more impressively, the film had a massive list of small roles and cameo appearances by Fred Willard, Chris Parnell, Fred Armisen, Seth Rogen, Danny Trejo, Judd Apatow, Luke Wilson, Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Tim Robbins, Jerry Stiller, and Vince Vaughn.

According to Deadline.com, the film will be produced by Ferrell, Apatow, and Adam McKay’s ‘Gary Sanchez Productions’. McKay will also direct the film and he and Ferrell will develop the script, which is still in the “idea” phase at this time. There is no timetable currently for the movie’s release.
