The Pro Bowl rosters were selected, and as always, there were plenty of snubs. When looking at the rosters as officially voted in, I realized that an entire new Pro Bowl squad could be assembled from guys who were snubbed, and in some cases, my roster is better than the one slated to travel to Hawaii in late January.
Here’s the NFC squad.
Offense
Matthew Stafford (Det)
Cam Newton (Car)
Matt Ryan (Atl)
Runningback
Michael Turner (Atl)
Marshawn Lynch (Sea)
Steven Jackson (StL)
Wide Receiver
Victor Cruz (NYG)
Roddy White (Atl)
Jordy Nelson (GB)
Tight End
Jason Witten (Dal)
Fred Davis (Was) – note: I realize he got suspended, and this isn’t a “homer” pick. He’s on my fantasy football team and I’m frustrated that he hurt the Redskins with his selfishness, but his stats MORE than hold up, especially when considering the amount of time he has missed
Tackles / Guards / Center
I’m not going to even try to indicate which players on the hard-to-analyze offensive line.
Defense
Because people aren’t as familiar with defensive players as they are with offensive ones, I’ve given stats for the players listed below.
Defensive Ends
Chris Long (StL) – 13 sacks, 14 tackles for loss
Calais Campbell (Arz) – 52 tackles, 10 pass deflections, 3 blocked kicks, 13 tackles for loss
Cliff Avril (Det) – 11 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 2 touchdowns scored
Interior Linemen
Israel Idonije (Chi) – 37 tackles (10 for loss), 4 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 blocked kick
Cullen Jenkins (Phi) – 30 ackles (11 for loss), 6 sacks
Outside Linebackers
Ryan Kerrigan (Was) – 8 sacks, 40 tackles (10 for loss), 1 INT, 1 TD, 4 passes deflected, 4 fumbles forced
Anthony Spencer (Dal) – 6 sacks, 49 tackles (12 for loss), 3 forced fumbles, 1 blocked kick
Inside Linebackers
London Fletcher (Was) – 93 tackles, 2 INT, 3 Fumbles Forced, 7 Pass deflections
Navorro Bowman (SF) – 102 tackles (12 for loss), 3 fumbles recovered, 7 pass deflections
Cornerbacks
Brandon Browner (Sea) – 49 tackles, 6 INT, 20 pass deflections, 2 touchdowns
Corey Webster (NYG) – 41 tackles, 6 INT, 15 pass deflections
Free Safeties
Morgan Burnett (GB) – 73 tackles, 1 sack, 3 INT, 2 forced fumbles, 10 pass deflections
Quintin Mikell (StL) – 69 tackles, 1 sack, 2 INT, 5 forced fumbles, 5 pass deflections
Strong Safety
Kam Chancellor (Sea) – 69 tackles, 1 sack, 4 INT, 2 forced fumbles, 12 pass deflections
Special Teams
Punter
Sav Rocca (Was)
Placekicker
Dan Bailey (Dal)
Kick Returner
Devin Hester (Chi)
I didn’t write this up for other positions, but it bares explaining in this situation. It boggles my mind how Patrick Peterson got the nod over Hester. Peterson has 4 touchdowns in 40 punt returns (1 in every 10) compared to the 2 by Hester in 26 tries (1 in each 13), but Hester has a better average, more returns of 20+ yards, and Hester returns kickoffs too (add another touchdown to his totals)
Disagree with me if you want to, but that’s a solid team. Sure, some of the positions I listed have players who aren’t as good as the actual players who made the Pro Bowl,
