In a controversial split decision, Manny Pacquiao lost the WBO Welterweight title to Tim Bradley, and he’s already calling for a rematch.
Though fans have been begging for a Mayweather v Pacquiao fight once Mayweather, getting a chance to reclaim his belt from Bradley is in the forefront of Manny’s mind for now, and he doesn’t want to leave the decision up to the judges next time.
“I want to finish him before the whole 12 rounds. I want the rematch,” said Pacquiao, and it appears that the new champion agrees.
“I heard all the boos at the end of the fight, which is okay because we need to do this again. Let’s make this more decisive.”
Oddly enough, it was Bradley who was hyping up the rematch before the June 9th encounter even occurred, bringing a prop with him to a press conference.
Despite Team Pacquiao stating they “100%” felt they had won the fight, only one of the three judges scored it in their favor. All three judges scored it 115 to 113, but CJ Ross and Duane Ford had scored it for the new champion instead of the international superstar.
“‘I had it for Manny by 10 rounds to two,” said Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer.
Boxing great Lennox Lewis weighed in via Twitter, calling the outcome “Unbelievable”, “Disgraceful”, and “another stain on boxing”.
According to CompuBoxOnline, Pacquiao landed more punches in each category than Bradley, including a larger percentage of punches landed… and it wasn’t even close:
| Pacquiao | Bradley | |
| Total Punches | 253 (34%) | 159 (19%) |
| Jabs | 63 (24%) | 51 (11%) |
| Power Punches | 190 (39%) | 108 (28%) |
Though the scorecards arguably should have looked different, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that Bradley walked away with the belt. With the victory over Pacquiao, he improves to 29-0, with 12 knockouts.
