It shouldn’t be considered a spoiler for AVENGERS that there is an IRON MAN 3 film in development. The first two films in the Marvel series have combined to earn more than $1 billion world-wide on production budgets totaling $340 million and got good reviews from critics.
A third sequel seemed inevitable, especially with Iron Man’s involvement in the heavily anticipated AVENGERS film for this summer.
The cast for Iron Man 3 is taking shape, and the names linked to the project are some very talented actors.
Returning from previous films are Robert Downey Jr in the lead role, Don Cheadle in the supporting spot as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, Gwyneth Paltrow remains cast as Pepper Potts, and although it’s unclear if Nick Fury will appear in this film, it has been indicated that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow character will be in Iron Man 3.
Adding serious clout to the film is Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, who is attached in the lead villain’s role as MANDARIN. Guy Pearce is also mentioned to be deep in talks to join the project as Aldrich Killian – an instrumental character from the EXTREMIS storyline arc from the comics.
The expected release date for IRON MAN 3 is May 3, 2013.
