Mr Incredible: Alright fans, this is Mr. Incredible back again with another installment of The Ratings Boost. This time we are going to give you something a little different. We are taking a walk on the Geek side…but from a female’s point of view. Now without farther adieu let’s get to our guide for this adventure…. LADY BLAZE. Thank you for taking time out to do this interview. So the first question off the bat is, when did you realize that you were a Geek?

Lady Blaze

Lady Blaze: Well you know how when you’re a little kid, you watch a lot of cartoons. I did a lot of that. My mom is styled in caricatures & comic books so I grew up with the influence…but to actually realize I was a geek was probably somewhere around the 12 to 14 range. That was right when I was really getting into creating my own comic books, watching a lot of anime & cartoons & when my friends started to drop off watching those & getting into the more girly things as a teenage girl.

Mr Incredible: Can you remember the first Anime that you watched?

Lady Blaze: Officially? the first anime I watched was the dubbed Sailor Moon. I was in about grade 5, which would have been 95 or so. It came on a cable station called YTV here & I instantly fell in love with it. Soon after that around 13 or 14, came the dubbed Dragon Ball Z. I say two, because those were the first two most influential ones I can remember.

Mr Incredible: Are you still pretty big into Anime? And if you are what do you watch now?

Lady Blaze: Unfortunately, I’m not. I think the main reason why is because soon after a lot of those shows really started to get popular, anime after anime after anime is being produced & put out there. I know there always are new & old series & there’s obviously your stand-outs but I think because there is such a high demand, there’s a LOT being just pumped out & less quality. I recently added a con here that was a mix but I really found myself entirely lost on half of the anime & costumes that there were. I’m old school I guess that way. The last series that was new that I recall watching was Fruits Basket & that was a good few years ago.

Mr Incredible: Now you also mentioned Comic Books. Which Comics are you reading and which Comics got you hooked?

Lady Blaze: I tend to kind of read whatever. But I usually keep up with X-Men from Marvel, as well as the Angel & Buffy lines. I try to keep my comic book reading minimal because they’re starting to cost too much! As for the ones that got me hooked, Sonic the Hedgehog & X-Men, New Mutants were the 3 main ones that got me hooked. Especially Sonic the Hedgehog. πŸ™‚

Mr Incredible: Do you feel as a female Geek, that you are in a minority in the world of Geeks?

Lady Blaze: As a female, not really. As an attractive, model type, your usual NOT associated with geeks, yes I do feel I am. Not saying anything bad in regards but there are all those stereotypes of what geeks are & aren’t & I guess I just don’t fit into that with most of the other females. I’m considered a hot female in the world of geeks, somebody that most would NEVER dream of seeing at cons, or reading comic books, etcetera.

Mr Incredible: As someone consider a hot female do you feel like you have to defend or prove your Geekiness all the time?

Lady Blaze: Thankfully, no. πŸ™‚ It’s usually the opposite, I have to defend my hotness. It’s definitely different. But most people are shocked to find out that I am a geek. Most guys(that aren’t typical geeks themselves, same idea as me) are more shocked than anything because they just don’t see it from me. They love it though, because I’m not the typical geek looking girl BUT I have these geek tendencies/geekiness that they love. πŸ™‚

Mr Incredible: I gotta ask…do you have the Geek laugh?

Lady Blaze: No. πŸ™‚ With the snorting & the high pitch, definitely not. I just have your typical girly laugh. Another thing that throws people off.

Mr Incredible: So as a Geek do you date Geek or not?

Lady Blaze: It’s kind of funny, my boyfriend is the same as me. He’s got that cool swag to him, but at the end of the day, he goes home & plays hella video games & watches comic book movies. You would never EVER guess he was.Β  I have dated geeks in the past though, the very obvious ones. Whether you’re obvious or not, I guess we just somehow find each other in the end!

Mr Incredible: Being a Geek girl you know all about cosplay, I assume.

Lady Blaze: Of course, I do it myself as well. πŸ™‚ I love it. Any chance I get I dress up when I can. My current favourite is Jessica Rabbit. I have the dress, the hair, the heels, the makeup. Again, not your typical. When people see me dressed as that, I don’t get the usual geeky excitedness from only geeks, I get it from EVERYONE. πŸ™‚ If I could dress up every day in a costume I would!

Mr Incredible: Now as a request from our male Geeks, does your cosplay carry over to other areas of your life, so to speak?

Lady Blaze: You got me laughing like crazy over here….No. I keep it as a thing I do for events, charities, cons, etc. I’ve had requests & I’ve had men mention to me that I should dress up as that character just for them, or for my boyfriend. I don’t take it beyond that. πŸ™‚

Mr Incredible: So you wouldn’t even do the Princess Leila fantasy?

Lady Blaze: I’m not a huge Star Wars fan…so no. πŸ™‚ Not even to dress up as her for a con lol.

Mr Incredible: How do you feel about the Female role in cosplay? Is it still dressing as your fav. person or is it moreΒ  how sexy and how much attention can you get?

Lady Blaze : Jessica Rabbit

Lady Blaze: For me, it’s about dressing as my favorite female. Unfortunately for me, most of my choices have ended up being sexy choices, not on purpose. As a result, I do get a lot of attention. I want the attention AS the costume, but as a female dressing up as those characters, I get that. I love the female role in cosplay. Mainly because I have seen everything from your totally normal, not so sexy characters & lots of females cosplay as males…..& then you can really delve into that as a female & get right into it.

Mr Incredible: So when you Cosplay…what exactly goes through your mind? Like picking who you’re going to be, finding the right stuff. Do you go for a certain look, things like that.

Lady Blaze: A mixture of things. I take into account a lot about my body build & face shape. If I know I couldn’t pull off a certain look, I’m not gonna do it. It’s difference once you get the wigs & the costume but you take some into account. I’m a makeup artist so it’s a big deal. If you can’t pull off a certain look facial or body wise, it’s a no go. As for picking once I get the chosen character, it’s about how you can pull it off after that. All about the walking, acting, & the vibe. πŸ™‚

Mr Incredible: Besides Jessica Rabbit, who have you been?

Lady Blaze: oh goodness. A lot. Mostly for Halloween. Past costume have consisted of Puss in Boots from Shrek(the female version), a vampire style based/from the Buffy & Angel series & Akasha, from Queen of the Damned.

Mr Incredible: Have you ever thought about being The Baroness from G.I. Joe?

Lady Blaze: I haven’t. Mainly because I haven’t been much into that series.

Mr Incredible: Is there anyone that you would like to be that you haven’t had a chance to yet?

Lady Blaze: Oh more than likely. I just can’t think of anything. I’m good where I’m at, but based on movies & whatnot I’m sure something will come up. πŸ™‚

Mr Incredible: Do you that Cosplay has become a bigger part of conventions then it used to be?

Lady Blaze: Yes. I definitely do. I don’t think when cons first started, there was much. Much like ours is starting out as here in my city. There’s people who dress up but a lot who don’t. The ones in bigger Canada & across the States, I know for sure cosplay is A BIG part.

Mr Incredible: Do you feel it’s to the point where people are not coming for the Con, but for the Cosplay itself?

Lady Blaze: No, definitely not. There’s always panels, screenings, & art vendors. So it’s great. It’s all around. Cosplay is just an element.

Mr Incredible: Now when you go to a Con, what do you usually hit first?

Lady Blaze: Well obviously there’s the registration, but once you get past that, I check the schedule to see what’s being done, panels, etc so I can make sure to catch what I want to. I usually walk around for a while after that, because there’s the obvious picture taking being done. Check out the vendor’s area & then hit the panels. πŸ™‚

Mr Incredible: Being someone that tried their hands at creating their own comics, do you spend alot of time at the artist’s and writer’s tables?

Lady Blaze: Very much so! I love seeing original work. I love seeing the products that they have to offer. πŸ™‚

Mr Incredible: Alright let’s change the line of questioning up a little bit, what are your views on LARPing?

Lady Blaze: LARPing is not really my thing. As long as it’s harmless & people do it for fun, I don’t mind it. It’s not my thing, honestly but I think it’s cool. If you can walk away at the end of the day & realize the reality, it’s just like being creative.

Mr Incredible: You talked about liking Video Games, what systems do you own?

Lady Blaze: Currently, just a Nintendo DSI lite. In pink. πŸ™‚ I have played & grew up on Nintendo though so I’m a huge Nintendo fan. I love the Wii. πŸ™‚

Mr Incredible: what are the games that you are playing?

Lady Blaze: Just one. A spelling & word one. I can’t remember the name offhand. It’s in those series of learn to speak & learn to cook & all that.
