In perhaps the biggest MMA-related news in years, Georges St Pierre is vacating the UFC Welterweight Championship.
UFC.com reports that Georges St Pierre has announced that he will be taking an “indefinite leave of absence from the sport of mixed martial arts”, and effective immediately, vacating his championship.
According to Dana White, the upcoming fight in Dallas between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler on March 15th, 2014 will determine the next welterweight champion. Last month, Hendricks lost a split-decision to GSP at UFC 167. It was the ninth defense of the championship by Georges St Pierre.
