As we already know, Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy have been cast to appear in major roles in the upcoming Batman film from Christopher Nolan.  More details about The Dark Knight Rises and the series as a whole continue to emerge.

It has been long since speculated that this is the last Batman film which will involve Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale, but recently Bale was quoted in saying something that should give fans of the series some hope:

All I know is the likelihood that this will be the last one. Well, I wouldn’t say definitely. If Chris goes, “Hey, I’ve got another story I think could be interesting,” then yeah, great, I’d go do that. I always assumed it would be three, but I could be wrong. I don’t know if there’s something wrong with me, but I don’t feel any pressure.

Nolan has stated that this will likely be his final film in the series, despite the studio, D.C. comics and plenty of others being interested in seeing the highly profitable take on the World’s Greatest Detective continue.  While that appears to be a sticking point for Christian Bale, it is optimism-inspiring to hear that he’s not ruling out the possibility of making a fourth film.  While Nolan had initially stated he hoped to make three films, the death of Heath Ledger caused him to question whether he wanted to return for a third film.  After he and David Goyer came up with the idea for the third film, it’s possible that he’s formulating how future films might continue the story of Batman in the world he has developed.  The movie-making duo already devised a concept for how they would envision a Superman film, leading to their involvement with the upcoming Man Of Steel film slated for Christmas 2012.   It’s not out of the realm of believability that a concept for Batman 4 will blossom during work on The Dark Knight Rises.  Now it’s nice to know that Christian Bale would be on-board if Nolan were to return as well.

Before it was announced that Anne Hathaway was cast to portray Selina Kyle for The Dark Knight Rises, there was speculation as to which villains would be involved in the new film.  While we now know two of the villains who will be portrayed, we don’t have all the information relative to the characters he intends to use.  Thanks to the Romania Insider, we know that Nolan has visited the Eastern European nation and is scouting it as a potential filming location.  This could mean that they’re hoping to film some scenes to help fill Bane’s rich backstory (which includes the Caribbean as the backdrop for the character’s formative years), or to be involved as the new home location for the League of Assassins.

While Ra’s al Ghul was killed in the first film, he could possibly be brought back to life if taken to the Lazarus Pits.  Another possibility would be to use Talia al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises.  While three villains could potentially cause the film’s plot to be a bit confusing and muddled, the idea that Nolan might involve another major character shouldn’t be ruled out of the realm of possibility.  It has been reported in several sources that Nolan has been searching for two actresses to be involved in his third Batman film, leaving plenty of opportunity for Talia al Ghul’s involvement… especially if he has a concept for the film which involves a plot which leads to a fourth film.
