As a Washington Redskins fan, I don’t like Tiki Barber anyway, seeing how he ran all over us any time the New York Giants played the ‘Skins.  Even when he went to be a member of the media, I still wasn’t a fan of his, even when he was talking trash about the Giants QB Eli Manning (who I also don’t like), but today I learned something that made me consider him a disgrace to guys all over the world.

Now I know sometimes things don’t work out between a man and a wife and they end up getting a divorce.  It’s unfortunate, if there’s kids involved or not, but it happens.

What I don’t like is when a guy cheats on his wife after being married a while and then dumps her by the curb.

Not only is that what it looks like Tiki Barber is doing, but the kicker of it all?  His wife of 11 years, with whom he already has 2 kids, is 8 months pregnant with TWINS.

How could he do that?  How could Tiki Barber pretend to be a man if he’s going to leave his pregnant wife a month before they’re set to have two more babies?  That’s gutless.  He shouldn’t have had these babies with her if he was thinking of leaving, and if this is a recent decision he’s making, then that’s even worse.

Athletes don’t need to be role models.  I don’t think anybody should be looking up to Tiki Barber or Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan based only on the fact that they’re talented athletes, but Tiki Barber wrote a book where he made comments that made it sound like he wanted to be a role model.

The New York Post found a quote from Tiki that makes him seem like even more of a disgrace:

I don’t give a [bleep] that the relationship didn’t work,” he said of his parents’ split in a 2004 Post interview. “Not only did he abandon her, I felt like he abandoned us for a lot of our lives. I have a hard time forgiving that.”

[…]

In his 2007 memoir, “Tiki: My Life in the Game and Beyond,” Barber described the example he wanted to set for his kids.

“I want to be an honorable man, because that’s what I want them both to be,” he wrote, noting, “My family is everything to me.”

I don’t care whether Tiki spends every day with his kids, the fact that he is leaving his wife for a 23 year-old blonde intern makes him not an honorable man.  An honorable man lives up to his committments, and having twins with his wife is a commitment not only to his unborn kids, but also to his wife.  His family is NOT everything to him.  Appearing like a family man seems more like it.  Getting the chance to sleep with someone other than his wife is more important to him than being a family man.  I don’t care what the situation is, leaving his wife and not being there 100% for his 4 kids is not being a family man.

He’s not the kind of role model I’d want for my kids.  I just hope he does enough for his kids to allow them to forgive him.

Maybe that’s just my opinion, but I’m guessing that lots of you readers will agree with the Bud View.
