Not sure what’s good at the movie theater this weekend? Let’s see if we can help you spend your cash wisely:

NEW OPTIONS

21 JUMP STREET

I was inclined to say not to watch it just yet, and while I’d still recommend waiting a week, the reviews I’m hearing so far indicate that this is funny movie. I’d be shocked if it gets THE HANGOVER or BRIDESMAIDS type of reviews, but time will tell. Jonah Hill was good in Moneyball, and Channing Tatum has been decent in his movies, so they could make a go of it.

CASA DE MI PADRE

If you want to see the new Will Ferrell flick, you’ll have to find a theater playing it. Limited release this weekend only has it in 380 theaters, compared to 3100 for 21 JUMP STREET.

JEFF, WHO LIVES AT HOME

You’ll have a harder time finding this one than CASA DE MI PADRE, but if you like THE LEAGUE, you probably won’t be disappointed… unless you only watch THE LEAGUE for the fantasy football advice and Ruxin’s wife. Then you might be disappointed. If you’ve never heard of THE LEAGUE, spend your weekend at home catching up on what you’ve missed.

FRIENDS WITH KIDS

Okay, so it’s not NEW this week, but it is TRIPLING the number of theaters it’s in, going from 300 to about 1000.

STILL IN THEATERS

JOHN CARTER

If you liked AVATAR, you should see this. If you liked DANCES WITH WOLVES and you’re up for an action flick this weekend, you should see this.

ACT OF VALOR

If you want an action flick, don’t care for any comedy strewn in, and you want the action to be believable, this is the flick for you.

PROJECT X

It’s not getting great reviews, but some people seem to like it. If you like the idea of a crazy party movie where things get out of control and you don’t care about what critics are saying, you probably won’t be disappointed, but you should be considering the alternatives.

THIS MEANS WAR

The reviews aren’t great, but if your lady wants something with a bit of romance, this is a far better option than THE VOW.

THE LORAX

If you’re interested in this movie, you’ve probably already seen it because it has made an absurd amount of money in just two weeks in the middle of March.

SILENT HOUSE

If you want a horror / thriller flick and you don’t care if it’s any good (maybe you like to laugh at how bad some ‘scary’ movies are), here’s your option.

Best Picture OSCAR NOMINEES

Keep in mind that if you still want to see one of the movies nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, a lot of them are still in theaters somewhere (THE ARTIST is in more theaters than WANDERLUST), but they’ve been around for a while and they’re going to quickly start dropping completely off the map.
