Out of all the characters X-Men fans have been wanting to see on the screen, Apocalypse ranks among the top of the list. Now an announcement lets fans know their dreams are scheduled to become a reality.
According to a Tweet from Bryan Singer (director of X-Men, X-Men 2 and X-Men: Days Of Futures Past), the film will take place in 2016!
For storyline purposes, this announcement shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. As the story goes, Apocalypse is a tyrant ruler in an alternate reality and rules with the Darwin-like “survival of the fittest” mentality. Days Of Futures Past deals with alternate realities based on different timelines. It would make sense that a movie with Apocalypse would follow after such a storyline.
Marvel.com ranks Apocalypse #3 on their list of Top 10 X-Men villains. With Magneto having appeared in each of the subsequent X-Men films and the Sentinels appearing in some capacity in Days Of Futures Past, it makes sense that they would tap Apocalypse here. Villains numbered 4 and 5 were parts of previous movies as well, there is likely to be an appearance from villain #6 Mr. Sinister as well. Sinister was involved in the storyline working with Apocalypse.
Apocalypse was ranked #24 on IGN’s list of all-time comic book villains. Only #6 Darkseid, #16 Black Adam and #17 Braniac have yet to be utilized on the big screen, with #23 Ultron being the focus of the upcoming AVENGERS sequel.
