Arrested Development is returning to the small screen…. At least for one season anyway. According to the New York Times, Mitchell Hurwitz plans on doing a nine or 10 episode mini series type deal as a prologue for the much anticipated Arrested Development project that’s been floating around for a while.

The first episode, Mitchell said, could focus on Buster Bluth, the deeply neurotic brother played by Tony Hale. “The latest joke we have,” Mr. Hurwitz said, “is that it’s Cambridge, Mass., and there’s all these scientists in lab coats and they’re waiting for somebody. Buster comes through the door in a white lab coat – ‘Let’s begin’ – and they say, ‘Oh, no, you don’t get to wear the lab coat. We’re experimenting on you.’ ”

Mitchell  Hurwitz was qouted before that saying: “We don’t completely own the property, there are business people involved and studios and that kind of thing. Just creatively, I have been working on the screenplay for a long time and found that as time went by, there was so much more to the story. In fact, where everyone’s been for five years became a big part of the story. So in working on the screenplay, I found even if I just gave five minutes per character to that back story, we were halfway through the movie before the characters got together.”

He then went on to say that to get this project done, “requires studios to work together that don’t typically work together, film and TV.”

But this was all kind speculative, that was until Jason Bateman sent a tweet confirming it. “It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ‘13. VERY excited! #batemanjason

I personally think this is awesome. I think it was the best show on TV when it was on, and I’ve missed the hell out of it. It’s needed to come back for years. I’m also very curious to see what channel the 4th season will air on. Id love for it to be HBO so they can be a little raunchier, but it will probably be Fox since they still will probably only have ONE successful live action sitcom on the channel in 2013. If could be on TBS for all I care. 2013 is going to be a GREAT year.
